I have a wireless network at home consisting of a wireless router/modem and a wireless card in my PC. The internet connection is over wireless.

I have just connected a network media player (MG-35) direct with a crossover CAT-5 to the PC. The connectivity between the media player and PC is fine however when I plug the network cable into the PC I lose ability to connect to the internet (browsing, email etc). The wireless connection does not drop out however the "Internet Connection" disappears under "Internet Gateway" of the Network Connection Properties. All I am left with is the 1394 Connection (firewire), Local Area Connection, and Wireless Network Connection.

I assume that once the network cable is plugged in, the PC tries to access the net over the LAN rather than the wireless which it obviously can't do... If I open explorer it just hangs there for 5 seconds before giving up.

I have tried bridging the two connections (LAN and Wireless) but that doesn't seem to work either

    Thanks!

If the wireless router-modem has ethernet ports then you'd be better off plugging in the network media player to the router port using a regular cat5 cable. What's the medial player details?

Yep - I would like to do that but it is a real pain in the ass to get a physical connection from the modem/router to the media player with the position they are in my house. Much easier to go to my PC then I don't have to have cables across the floor etc....

    Any ideas?

If you wish, you can use wireless connection.

Buy a wireless access point to connect your media player.

    yes!
Just set it up next to the router & turn it on!
Once setup there should be no need to have to physically access the device, all configs can likely be done via the lan. You should even be able to load up a mp3 player at your comp with files from the device over the lan. Why do you need it near the pc anyway?
