I have a 186 GB SATA drive (Western Digital) that I use for video editing. With a big editing job coming, I set out to make as much space as possible. After deleting all the files I could, and then defragging and emptying the recycle bin, I show 5.17 GB of used space. But if I go down all the remaining folders and do a properties on each, I come up with 3.4 GB total in all of them. I seem to have 1.77 GB of lost space somehow.

I did a chkdsk /f, and it did not find ANY damaged areas.

I know this isn't a huge deal, but I'm curious where the 1.8 GB has gone. Does anyone have any ideas?

    End this thread

Never mind. I found the problem. For some reason, even though I did dump the recycle bin, it didn't "take" the first time. I did it again, and now the overall used space matches the sum of all of the folders' used space.

    Sorry,

    Terry

No problem, Terry - glad to hear you were able to resolve the problem at first hand :)
