When sending a message with an attachment, using OE 6, why does the attachment (an image or a text file) sometimes appear, in full, in the message area and sometimes not?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS:)

When sending an image, you can either paste it to the body of the email or attach the image file.

Thanks for the reply, but further clarification would be appreciated.

I always "attach the image file ", by clicking the Attach paperclip, browsing until I locate the file and clicking the Attach button in the Insert Attachment box. This enters details of the file to be attached in the Attach line of the header.

I know of the existence of the paste method, but have never (consciously!) tried to use it. Nevertheless, occasionally and unpredictably, the image is posted to the body, as well as the file of the image being referred to in the header.

Is this unpredictable behaviour a known fault with OE in general or just my version or my use of it?

Masochist--If you Attach a .jpg, .gif or .bmp file, the graphic will automatically open at the bottom of the message (you cannot see it as you compose, but the receiver can or you can when you look at Sent Mail). The receiver also gets the file to download and send/save somewhere else, if he wants to, by clicking on the icon in the Attachment line.
If you use toolbar Insert|Picture, you can place the graphic whereever you want, and you will see it in the Insert position as you compose the message (as will the receiver). You do not send the file as such (but the receiver can in fact save it by doing a right click|Save as).

    Masochist--You are most welcome!!
I forgot to mention that when you send the image as an attachment, the receiver can click on the attachment icon and have the image open full screen in your graphics viewer. (In MS this is usually Internet Explorer for .gif and .jpg, MS Paint for .bmp.)

Also, you have to send the email in html format in order for the picture to show up in the body of the message. If you choose plain text format it'll arrive as an attachment in which the recipient will have to use the paper clip icon in order to view it.

Zander - It was the "sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't" aspect which was troubling me and, thanks to you, I now know the reason. When sending an image with a very short message not needing any formatting, I hadn't bothered to check whether or not the HTML option had been selected. From now on, I will!! Thanks and regards.
