Hi...Is there any way that I can stop the same kind of spyware/malware from accessing my computer, or is it the penalty one has to pay for using the internet? :( I find that I'm always deleting the same kind of spyware/malware everytime I scan my computer. The spyware is of the tracking variety usually. Thanks.

Hi bigalx and welcome to the forums.

Well I guess it really depends on what type of spyware you're talking about. What is it that you keep finding, cookies perhaps? Tracking cookies even? For the most part these are harmless, collecting data of where you surf and reporting it back to some server. But these are not much of a threat. By nature they don't change your homepage or re-direct your searches, unlike lots of other malwares.

You can stop a lot of cookies by using IE's privacy control. You can read about handling cookies on this page

Let us know if there were other things you were talking about.

You can install antispyware software which will either give you a degree of permanent protection or will monitor your computer in real time.

I suggest you read this ....

Keep your Computer free from Viruses, Trojans, Spyware and other Malware

and install Spywareblaster + Spybot to provide a degree of permanent protection and Windows Defender to provide real time protection. Use the scanning facility of Spybot and Ad-Aware SE occasionally to clean up anything which is not blocked.

The odd tracking cookie is amost inevitable, but generally harmless - just an invasion of your privacy.
