    Replaced the internal CD with a new DVD DL. Set master - slave correctly.
    recognized but won't read disk.
    as soon as machine starts (prior to windows) the DVD opens and stays open.
    Possibly the BIOS is looking for the CD & driver.
    How to adjust BIOS if problem.

    The new DVD should be seen automatically by today's hardware and software. Might help to tell us some details about your hardware and operating system. Problem could be old hardware or old OS, or even a defective DVD drive. Does it show in explorer in windows? In device manager?

    Also make sure data cable is attached solidly to drive and to motherboard, and check it's orientation if it's not keyed.

    Win XP; Sony PCV RX650; 80 GB; Nero 5.0;
    I called Sony tech support: no help after 30 minutes, uninstalled & removed, added everything once or twice, finally they figured needed tech support on site, take CPU to BestBuy...
    Leave with them a week, and I don't think so.
    I reinstalled the old CD RW, same Master-Slave set from the disfunstional CRU-820A, everthing fine. System works same as prior.
    Then subbed out the working DVD read only, with the new CRU-820a...no suprise - the drive bay opened on power up. Used the same Master - Slave setting for the substitution.
    OK, fine.
    Decision, defective part :- CRU-820A (NFG)...so will return and get a Light-Scribe - For a Few Dollars More.
