Typically I will log into a web site such as this one and then click on a particular thread in the forum and get told I do not have authorisation for this site or section and to log in again? (This happened when I clicked on New Thread for this item) Had to log on again

On other sites like photobucket I was told to set my security setting to Medium to allow cookies? This I have done but still have the problem.

Sometimes I can click on an item get logged out go back click again get logged out etc but eventually I can open the item I am interested in.

On my other computers I have no problem.

Can anyone suggest a series of steps that I can take to correct this annoying fault. Keep the computer speak simple if poss please.

    Many thanks

Kostas--Specific to Windows BBS, you can read posts without registering. But you cannot Post Reply (or open a new thread) without registering. That deposits a cookie.
Registering is free. Have you done so?
    If that does not help
If that does not help, where in IE Security|Privacy are you setting the slider to Medium? And on the Privacy tab|Advanced have you allowed First Party cookies?

Re Getting logged out of web sites

I am a member and was logged in when I clicked on (New thread) and was logged out. Similarly when clicking onto reply to your answer I was logged out and had to log back on?

Quote (If that does not help, where in IE Security|Privacy are you setting the slider to Medium? And on the Privacy tab|Advanced have you allowed First Party cookies?)

Tools, Internet options, Security, Internet, set to medium
Tools, Internet options, Privacy, set to medium
Tools, Internet options, Privacy, Advanced, Currently set to automatic cookie handling with first party and third party cookies ticked but greyed out.
    I have also tried:-
Tools, Internet options, Privacy, Sites and entered a site that I have had problems with, set to always allow. This did not seem to make any difference?:(

kostas--Regrets. I have no further ideas other than to suggest a System Restore if this has only started recently. (If you are running Win98, you will have to do something different.)
Hopefully a Moderator may offer some help, although I understand this is happening at other sites as well.

P.S. Your security settings seem OK.
I doubt that has anything to do with the problem, but I think you have to click the box "Override automatic cookie handling" to have the other boxes become active.

    Hello Kostas,

What firewall are you running? Some firewalls, especially paid versions have security settings options. I know ZA pro has cookie handling options.

Or are you running a suite such as Norton's? Norton has a habit of setting automatic rules.

Re Gettinh logged out of websites

    I am running ZA Pro

There is one site that I use quite a lot and I keep having problems with getting logged out etc and have tried going into:-
ZA, Privacy, Site List and entered the site name with Mobile code, Cookie control, Session, Persistent, and third parties cookies ticked and still have problems with that site.
I think it was around the time of changing from the free version to pro that I had this problem though??

    Thinks!!:D

I have just tried an experiment, I temporally turned off ZA Pro and was able to log onto CNET which I could not do previously, it also seemed to cure some problems I was having ,on another site? The one mentioned above.

Now, is there an expert on ZA Pro about, who may be able to advise me on how to remove this glitch that I am apparently having with ZA Pro.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi Kostas,

First, go into all three Privacy tabs sections: Cookie Control, Add Blocking, and Mobile Control, and reset them to the default settings. If that works, then enable options to narrow down what's causing the problem.

    In Moble Code:

Block Java Scripts can cause problems with site navigation.

Block scripts (vbs scripts, etc) as a rule should be disabled and should be only enabled on a per site basis. These have the potential to effect your system directly.

Block embedded objects (Java, ActiveX) as a rule only affects the site.

Block mime type objects will block downloads.

There is also an option to add a site to ZA's trusted zone.

    Regards - Charles

I have clean installed the latest version of ZA
I thought this had solved the problem:(
Things went well to start with then problems occured but less so than previously
I have reset Privacy to default as suggested above, my problem seems to occur sometimes and not other times?
I may just switch of the privacy control alltogether and rely on the Internet Explorer settings for privacy.

I also have AdAware SE, Spybot, and SpywareBlaster

The problem is that I can switch on the computer go to what was a problem site and it is OK Then next time I have problems.

At least we seem to have narrowed it down to ZA

    Many thanks

    Hi Kostas,

    You should also rule out:

If you have SpyBot's resident process running - Teatimer or the Immunize feature, disable them as well. The same with SpywareBlaster.

All these programs block web elements and any one of them may be it.

http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=57195 a similiar problem with ZA blocking web elements.

    Hi Kostas,

Looking around the ZA forums http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs to see if I could find anything.

Didn't see anything like your problem, but did come across instructions on how to clear ZA's data base. This would be a step to take before resorting to uninstalling/ re installing.

All the .rdb files (including IAMDB.rdb and Backup.rdb) in the C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs folder on my PC come from Retrospect Express--a backup utility.
The ZoneAlarm logs (in C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm) have names like ZALog2006.09.27.txt or just ZALog.txt. However, they only seem to log the activity of ZA, and do not hold the Program Control settings.
In C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm I have some .zap files. Maybe they contain the Program Control settings. I find the MailSafe extensions in the Registry, but nothing (except for .zap) that seems to have anything to do with ZA's Program Control. When I try to see a .zap file, it is only code.
But I have ZA Free, so maybe it is different.
I wonder where ZA Free keeps the Program Control info (where ZA's database is stored).
