Yesterday I was offered two updates to Windows through the automated function. They were KB925486 (Vulnerability in Vector Markup Language Could Allow Remote Code Execution) and KB905474 (Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications).

Usually when "off schedule" updates are offered they stir up a bit of dust but it has been all quiet about these two. I have seen comments on a swedish XP-forum but nothing else. I admit that I haven't searched high and low but I have to ask:

Is the offer of these updates worldwide or confined to Sweden?

If confined to Sweden, why are they labeled as "high priority "?

    Hi Christer,
The update KB 925486 is to block a vulnerability through images in VM language. There is a link to the news article in Arie's news page. Microsoft pushed the update out ahead of schedule because of the seriousness of the problem, but I think that it only applies to IE6.

    Hi Roger!

Then, I take it as being a worldwide release. Did everyone get KB905474 (Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications) as well?

    Hi Christer

Checking my updates I see that KB905474 was installed on 28 June 2006 - no sign of KB 925486, but I run IE 7.

    Hi Charles

That link confirms that IE 7 is not vulnerable - which would explain why I was not offered the patch.
