    Hi,
As usual I am trying to fix another computer that has Windows Xp (Home Edition)...The computer when turned on boots right to the safe mode screen and just keeps re-booting right back to it...The other day, how I don't recall but I was able to disable the startup recovery and the almighty blue screen of death appeared...It said "Unmountable_Boot_Volume "...Error codes were: STOP 0X000000ED...Info from that was the BOOT.INI file was corrupted... This evening, I took a Windows Xp CD and tried to follow the instructions (from computerhope.com) to rebuild the BOOT.INI file...However, the computer will not go beyond the safe mode screen...I am at at a loss as to how to get around this so I may enter the recovery mode and proceed with the instructions (of course hoping that is the only problem)...Any help will be greatly appreciated...Thanks

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay but apparently there was another issue regarding my email address with this forum that had to be corrected...Anyways, I guess I was not specific with my information in my previous post...However, I can not access the "recovery console" because I can not get beyond the safe mode screen and that's what I am seeking assistance with...The steps that follow after that I am okay with...I also did leave out the fan and interior portions of the tower were well infested with dust, etc...Once I cleaned that out, I proceeded to work on the other pending issues and no matter what I select "Last known good configuration" and so on, nothing changes...Thanks

You do not need to get into Safe mode - boot from the XP CD and enter the Recovery Console ....

    Hi,
Sorry again but for some reason I am being misunderstood...As soon as you turn on the computer, it goes to the safe mode screen...I am not going into safe mode, and when I try the other commands hoping it will come out of safe mode, nothing happens...The computer reboots and goes right back to the safe mode screen...Nothing I do or try brings it out so I can insert the Windows XP CD and access the recovery console...I even tried booting the computer up with the XP CD in and safe mode comes right back to the desk top screen and this is where I am running into the problem...I can not enter any aspect of the computer, start, run, nothing...Hopefully that will create a better picture...As usual thanks again.

You must boot from the install CD. It sounds as if the boot order in BIOS is incorrect. Check and reset if necessary the boot order to CD-ROM > Floppy > Hard Drive. Watch the POST screen for 'Press any key to boot from CD'.
