    Hi

I am running XP Pro. I installed it a few years ago. The PC runs fine but i have strated to see it is slowing down some these days. It runs 24/7 and every few month there seems to be some reason to reboot it.

I have three user accounts. Administrator, user1 and user2.

    OK

The administrator accounts user profiles is 847K :) in size.
User1 account user profile is 11.5meg:)
and User2 accounts user profile is 1.5Gig:mad:

As you can see the user2 profiles is 1.5gigs and is very large. Is they any way to get this back under control other then creating a new user and reinstalling and setup most all of my software programs.

PS: I have tried many of the registory fixit programs but none have correct this problem.

    Thanks
    Rainey

    Hi Rainey,
    welcome to WindowsBBS ... :) ... !

What are you referring to as "user profiles "? The folders in Documents and Settings associated with the respective user account?

How often do you clear out your cache and temp files, defrag your PC and run disk cleanup?
You could also look through the directory to see where the lion's share of the 1.5 GB is, it could be a massive log file for example.

I am refering to the user account profiles, that are listed when you go to the system icon in control panel -> advance tab-> user profiles.

As you can see the registry info for that one user has goten out of control. Before i have problems i am going to try and fix it.

What has brought this on is, the other day i installed DVD Fab. after the reboot the system would not boot up. I had to chose use the last good setting file to get the system to bootup again. So as i looked around i find that this account is huge and none of the registry optimizers have reduced the size.

I created a new user and it is less then 1meg in size. I copy the desktop, favorites, startmenu items over and most programs run and the user profile size is only about 10meg. So what is the 1.5gig holding. I was looking at microsoft for a maintenace tool for this but have not seen anything.

I am about to restore a base fully loaded image from about two or three years ago and then update and reinstall just what i am using these days with the most current versions of each program. So i many not be back here for a week or so untill i get it all restored.

    Thanks for the tip Ryan

Ya i looked through the user directory and i guess that is where a lot of that is comming from. That user has about 1.9gig of files and i guess that most of that is used to calculate the user profile. I had about 700meg pictures, 400meg app data, and 100meg email, and some others.

I was not aware that is what the user profile was refering to. I though it was info in the registry.

Either way i am reloading because the registry is huge also because the last time i backed up files software and system and SAM it was about 50meg. I have wanted to do this for some time so i guess i have a reason and some time now to do it and reload.

    Thanks for the help
