    Hello:)

I have a SONY VAIO laptop for 3 years or so.
Now my VAIO got virus or some kind of problem and
    it works very slow.

I want to recover and reinstall Windows XP on it,
but I have lost the recovery CDs.

Does anyone know where I can download those CDs
or help me to get the CDs.

Sony said they don't offer the CD for my VAIO anymore.

    THank you.

    OS: Sony VAIO,
    model:pCG-9G1L

P.S. If this is not appropriate post, please delete this.

Hi nekochan, welcome to the board.

If Sony does not have it anymore, try Ebay or amazon.
Why don’t you try and get rid of the virus and all other malware.
Go to majorgeeks.com and download spybot, Ad-Aware and AVG virus Protection.
Run all 3 and see if that helps. Post back if you still have problems.

nekochan - Welcome to the Board :)

To add to what Sven has posted ....

Please download and install the 30 day trial version of Ewido Anti-Spyware

Run the program either from the Desktop icon if you chose to install one or from Start > Programs. On the main screen select the Update icon followed by the "Update now" link and click on the Start Update button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

When the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the window and click on the Settings tab.

On the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then on Quarantine.

Under Reports select Automatically generate report after every scan and deselect Only if threats were found.

Close Ewido Anti-spyware. Do not run a scan just yet.

Boot into Safe Mode and log onto your usual account.
Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as this may interfere with the scanning proccess.

Start Ewido Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop or from Start > Programs and select the Scanner icon at the top of the window followed by the Scan tab and click on Complete System Scan. The scanning process will start and may take some time.

When the scan is complete if any infections were detected you will prompted for an action - select Apply all actions.

Then select the Reports icon at the top of the window and click on the Save report as button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and save it as a text file (be sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).

Close Ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.

Please download HijackThis through Quicklinks in my signature and save it to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\HJT - not to the Desktop or a temporary location. When entries are fixed with HJT a backup is made to the folder from which HJT is run and this must be in a permanent location.

Open the folder in which you placed HJT and double click on hijackthis.exe and select Scan and save a log file - this will be saved in the folder from which you ran HJT.

Post a summary of your problem together with the ewido and HJT logs in a new thread in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum.

    Thank you so much !

Thank you so much for those informations!!:D

My VAIO laptop does not have internet connection now, so I downloaded
"Spybot ", "Anti-Virus ", and "Ewido Anti-Spyware" to my desktop. And I put it to an empty CD-R and copy those files to my VAIO.

I couldn't use "Spybot" on my VAIO becuase of no connection to internet (it needs update before scan). However, I found a lot of spyware and I have done some action for it and save the report to my desktop. There was no virus according to "Anti-Virus" software.

I feel my PC get well a little ? I cannot tell clearly, because when I want to install Ewido Anti-Spyware, the blue screen with white text come up with "KERNEL_STACK" or something like this kind of error.
I also noticed the HDD makes ticking sounds. I wonder if I should continue working on the PC.. or not..

Some post on the internet says, if there is ticking sounds, the HDD is almost broken. However, if he did recovery with the CDs, it stop ticking and works perfectly. Thanks for your information, I put my post to "Want it now" on eBay about a recovery cd. If I can get the recovery CDs, it is perfectly good, but now what I am scare is the ticking of HDD..

If you know more information about HDD, please inform me, and Thank you so much for your time:) :)

Ticking sounds from a laptop hard drive are not necessarily bad news - they may be the sound of the read/write heads moving across the drive. On my old laptop - an HP with an EIDE drive the sound was quite noticeable and on my new laptop, also HP with a SATA drive it is still possible to hear the heads moving across the disk.

If you can determine the make of the hard drive you can download some diagnostic software from the manufacturer's web site.

The make of the hard drive - or at least a model number which you can put into Google should be shown by Everest

It would be a good idea to back up your data on the laptop in case the hard drive is failing.
