This has been a lingering problem. I reboot the computer and it works fine for a time. Some times several days before crashing, sometimes the same day.

Would appreciate help with detecting the problem through the event viewer or info from the blue screen.

    Hi williampittman,
I'm sure many would be more than willing to help. Why havn't you included the errors from your event viewer or the quoted details from the blue screen errors? If you post them they will come..........:)

    Blue Screen Messages

I haven't written down the blue screen info in several months. When the computer hangs I usually shut the computer off and reboot hard so as not to encounter blue screen.

Ouch! Mediaplayer issues. I was wondering why so many have viewed this and bailed. Mediaplayer issues are not a favorite because they can get very complicated and are often system, user, os software/hardware specific.

Let's start with the lesser of the evils and see if I can head you in the right direction at least. The driver "tfsnifs.sys" is related to a DLA service most often "Sonic" as in "Sonic Record Now" but Hp also has their own version. The software goes hand in hand with a burner, either cd or dvd. First thing I would do is make sure I pay a visit to my OEM support site and have downloaded and updated my roms cd/dvd with the latest divers and patches available. Then check for said same for the software I mentioned or as most have done, disable the DLA component of the rom itself. To do so:
    >Ensure that the CD/DVD ROM is empty.
    >Double click on the "My Computer" icon on desktop.
    >Right-click on the CD/DVD ROM drive, and choose properties.
    >Go to the tab marked DLA.
    >Uncheck the box listed there for enabling Drive Letter Access.
    >Click OK.

You may wish to search your OEM support site's knowledge base support for known problems with DLA or rom (cd/dvd) and "windows MediaPlayer ". The problem with media player may be directly related to rom driver problem or the software and any burner plugin either is allowing mediaplayer to use for burning or playing cd's or dvd's.

The above is a bit brief and generic, I know. Not knowing your OS specifics makes it harder to be more helpful. If you would like more help looking for such, perhaps you can tell me your computer make and model (oem), what cd/dvd rom you have and which burning software you have. I hope what little I did provide helps just a wee bit.

    ---Additional info--------
F.Y.I. concerning your "Blue Screens ":
Not my area but you may wish to know that Bug Check error of 0x7E is:
The "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" bug check has a value of 0x0000007E. This indicates that a system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.

The second parameter was 0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    A memory access violation occurred.

This can be caused by anything from faulty RAM, an incorrect/corrupt device driver, poorly written/updated software or malware/adware installations.

In your case, a google search most often suggested the solution was dvd driver update followed by the disabling of rom DLA integration.

    PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES (76)
Caused by a driver not cleaning up completely after an I/O.
Issue a !search over all of physical memory for the current process pointer.
This will yield at least one MDL which points to it. Then do another !search
for each MDL found, this will yield the irp(s) that point to it, revealing
which driver is leaking the pages.
    Otherwise, set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management\TrackLockedPages to a DWORD 1 value and reboot. Then the system
will save stack traces so the guilty driver can be easily identified.
When you enable this flag, if the driver commits the error again you will
    see a different bugcheck - DRIVER_LEFT_LOCKED_PAGES_IN_PROCESS (0xCB) -
which can identify the offending driver(s).
Note that on newer versions of Windows (XPSP2 or WS03 and above), if you hit a
breakpoint in MmCleanProcessAddressSpace indicating the process is leaking
pages, after you press 'g', memory management will automatically enable locked
page tracking (like the registry key description above) until the system is
rebooted in order to help find the culprit.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 00000000, 0
    Arg2: 8a42fda8, process address
Arg3: 00000002, number of locked pages
Arg4: 00000000, pointer to driver stacks (if enabled) or 0 if not.

    DLA's were already unchecked

Unchecking them was one of the first things I did. I am familiar with the DLA problems with Sonic.

If you are confident working inside the case/tower, pull out and reseat the RAM modules.

Run the memory diagnostics in my signature.

    I ran memory diagnostics

No issues with memory, even in extended test mode

I try to stick with you if I can. I am no expert in reading the fault reports.

You have posted three different reports. Some information is similar, like the page faults. Do you see any common factors? Are there any other error types occuring or is it basically those three.

The first two reports refer to WMP and IE, the third refers to a driver. A driver related to WMP and IE, first that comes to mind is a graphics or audio driver, but you may want to look at drivers for your internet connection (modem, network).

The last report talks about using a system of identifying the driver.
I take it you are using SP2, so when you see that specific error again (I take it that you) press the G key.
Next time you see the error, (I take it) that you will get a report that will identify the driver involved.

All very high tech, maybe it will help us maybe not, anyway, look at your major drivers. Look for updates for your motherboard/chipset drivers, your graphics drivers and audio drivers (and as I said, your internet related drivers). If updates are not available, look at reinstalling the original drivers from the disks that came with the computer/hardware. If you get a message that the drivers are already installed, look at how to uninstall them and reinstall them (check in Add/Remove Programs for a "software uninstall ", otherwise uninstall them in Device Manager). Graphics and audio have "Control Panel" software and could possibly be a source of the problems.

    Matt
