gah, i recently went to dl the installer for a game (rappelz online)
first i saved the zipped installer into my C drive
then i unzipped the setup file into my D drive and deleted the zip file from C.
finally i installed the game into C drive and deleted the installer from D.

oh yea, i deleted the file using shift+del. not sure is that related.

Do you have it set to show sizes in megabytes? If so, those files that are less than one megabyte in size will show up as 0 megabytes in size and anything in between for instance 1 and 2 megabytes will get rounded off one way or the other also. Do you see any files in any folders that are zero megabytes in size? That might make up for the discrepancy. You can check this on the options tab. Also, make sure the line that says specify cluster sizes as is checked and make sure it says 1024 in the box. If it says anything else, change it. That can throw things off too.

You'll have to refresh it for the changes to be shown. If things don't change after the refresh close the program and re-open it.

yup, its set to show sizes in mb. i only have 10 items under D drive so i doubt the "below 1mb show as 0" really affects the 1gb loss.
on a sidenote, i just scanned the com with NOD32 antivirus and i've got some win32/TrojanDownloader, win32/hoax and unknown NewHeur_PE virus infected files. some couldnt be fixed so they were just quarantined. not sure is it related to the space loss as all infected files were in C drive and non in D drive.

yea i even tried putting some useless files into the recycle bin and using the "empty recycle bin" function. doubt its there anyway since i used shift+del. is there a possibility that the 1gb space in my hard disk just ******* up during the deleting and turned into some void space?

Have you run Error Checking (chkdsk)?

Open My Computer, right-click on the drive, select Properties, and go to the Tools tab. Run Error Checking, select "automatically fix... "

Edit: mmmm...if Error Checking is happy, then Windows is happy.

gaha, i did both the "auto fix" and the "scan and fix bad sectors" but the disk check was completed with no errors and the space is still missing.

evlon--Once again just guessing. Have you used DiskCleanUp (Right click on D:\|Properties|General tab)?
I use a program called System Security Suite.
    http://www.igorshpak.net/
    Might help.
Also, other than adding up the size of the files on D:\ , have you used any other method to determine the Free Space on D:\, such as right click|Properties?

there were no files that could be removed using disk clean up for D drive. "Properties" of D drive show used space to be 11.9gb and free space to be 2.3gb with capacity 14.2gb, highlighting all the files in D drive and cheking their "properties" show total file size to be 10.8gb.

    Hi evlon,

What I would at this point is to copy the files out to C - is there room, and format D thru Disk Management:

You don't specify what OS you're running. If XP:

Right click My Computer > Manage > Disk Mangement > and right click on the bottom section's partition/drive graphic > format.

Then see what the numbers are - and copy your files back, and then see what the numbers are again.

    Regards - Charles
