First, here's a layout of my network: http://oxihosting.com/files/1/baddiagram.jpg

As you can see, I have my first PC directly connected to my DSL modem, my netgear router connected to the DSL modem, and the netgear router connects to my 2nd PC. My third PC which is upstairs is also connected wired to the netgear router.

I have tried multiple things, such as setting one router as the DHCP server, etc. Nothing seems to be working. I can access the internet on all 3 computers, but I cannot read the computers on the network to share printers/files.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

You questions are pretty easy, but it is better to provide more infomation.

1 What's the OS on your PCs?
2 If you can access Internet on all of your three PCs, it means your DHCP server on the router should be working unless you setup IP address manually.
3 Just wondering what are the Maker and model of your DSL modem? Why don't you connect your PC1 to the Netgear router?

All 3 PCs are running Win XP with the latest updates. The DSL modem is an Actiontec R1524SU.

Then you should set up network and share the folders and printer.

    Setup the network:

On desktop, right-click on "my network places ", click on "properties "

on the left side of the windows, click on "set up a home or small office network"

    follow the instructions.

    Share the folders:

Navigate to the folder you want to share, right-click on it. the click on "sharing" tab. Then click the "I understand ... " link.

    follow the instructions.

    Share the printer:

Right-click on the printer you want to share, then click "share" then follow the instructions.

There may well be something here that I do not undesrtand but, I do have to ask anyway.

Why is the Router hooked to one machine ? Shouldnt it be connected to the Router ?

I have 3 PCs and a Printer on my LAN

    PC1 |
    PC2 |
    PC3 |-----Network Switch-----Router----Cable Modem.
    Prntr |

I used to have a printer on this machine and set up to be shared by the others. That got to be troublesome so I got a Printer ( HP5850 ) that cables right into the Router. Now any machine can use it at anytime as it is installed on each machine and no longer depends on another machine.

No more sharing. I love it.

PC1, PC2 & PC3 all need to be connected to the router, only. They connect using regular LAN port.
The modem should connect to the router as well on the router WAN port.

It looks like you should double-NAT:

Set the router to authenticate to your ADSL ISP using DHCP automaticly determined addresses.

Set the router to have as its own IP, 10.0.0.1, 255.255.255.0
This will create a LAN-side subnet of 10.0.0.X to avoid a potential subnet conflict with your modem.

    Reboot all equipment.

    Then read and follow:

XP Simple File Sharing -- Enabled

XP Simple File Sharing -- Disabled
