Last febuary, we need to replace your windows 2000 server who run active directory. He was the domain controler.
So we add in the domain a new windows 2003 server , run dcpromo, and transfert the schema master role, the domain master name, infrastructure master, PDC and RID.
    All seem to went fine.
So we unplug from the network the old server (the 2000 one).

I was suppose to make a fresh, clean reinstall on that server.
But I got a lot of new urgent demand and since yesterdays done nothing.

So, yesterdays, i ran replmon to make sure everything was stilll ok before scrapping the old server. But Replmon report that the new server is not the Schema master (it is the old one).

The old server is still unplug from the network.

What should I do? Force the new one to grab the master role ?
Plug the old server (not on the network for 8 month) and transfert the master role ?

    help Please!!!

    Hi,

I found: How to view and transfer FSMO roles in Windows Server 2003

So it seems you'll need to plug the other server back in. I'm not aware of any work arounds (but that doesn't mean there aren't any).

    how did you move role?

you can only move schema master role via command line ntdsutil.

if you did it inside AD users/computers or AD domains and trusts you did not move schema master
