[FONT= "Arial"][SIZE= "2"]I was wondering if there was anyone out there who knows of any reason Windows XP would cause the modem to open the phone line when it is plugged into it? When I query the modem in the Control Panel I get no error messages and everything looks good with respect to drivers and no conflicts but when I plug it into the phone jack it shows the telephone line being in use, in other words the modem lifts the receiver off the hook. I only use the dial up modem for sending and receiving faxes or as a back up when my cable access goes out so I am not in dire straits for an answer.

    Thanks

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Connection tab. Is Dial whenever a network connection is not present checked?

No there are no Dial up settings and the option is not available and the dot is in "Never dial a connection ". When I started having the problem I removed my WinFax10 in case that was the cause and I have not installed it since I hadn't resolved the modem issue.
