    Here's a new and strange one from my work laptop - a Dell Latitude D610 (1.86Ghz & 512Mb ram).

When I type in Excel I've noticed a quite significant slowdown in response time. I've looked all around, from memory to cpu usage to internal Excel features that may have been activated unwittingly, to no avail, I can't find anything blatantly "wrong ".

This problem IS specific to Excel and quite a nuisance overall, I'm typing this message on the same computer with no problems whatsoever.

I haven't even contacted our internal help-desk...thought it might be easier to post something here first.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

That's something I've been wondering about. I can't seem to find anything macro related, but suspect it has something to do with macros. Some time ago, I built and subsequently delated some macros. I wonder though if there is something embedded "somewhere ".

Most file I work with have no macros loaded or even as part of the file...but the macro is my strongest suspicion with regard to cause.

To check which macros are hanging around, open up a blank workbook, then to Tools > Macros > Visual Basic Editor. If the Project Explorer isn't open, go View > Project Explorer. Expand the whole tree and look for any unexpected macros. Try the same with Tools > Macros > Microsoft Script Editor.

I work on an internel help desk myself. Call them, even if only to check what macros should be there. You don't want to delete something which may be needed. Also, someone else at your company may have had the same problem.
