Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (IExplorer.exe)

I cannot open IE6, nor any attachments in e-mail for IE. My error message rds: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Crogram Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORER.exe (app rqstd Runtime to terminate in unusual way). I've done all "fixes" I can think of and then some...also getting a "virtual memory low" message. Saw some postings with "hijack" so I did that and will copy here and hope someone can help me out. Feels like my IE may be missing a file or something. Thanks to all in advance for helping me out of my stupidity!

Hello zensalad and welcome to the Board

Searching the runtime error, the hits are problems with Google Toolbar which I don't see running.

The only item I can see something wrong with is: O20 - Winlogon Notify: SSOExec - %windir%\temp\sso\ssoexec.dll (file missing)

If you search this line SSOExec - %windir%\temp\sso\ssoexec.dll (file missing) in google, you'll get hits on this causing shutdown and MS update problems.

Charles - thanks for the welcome and your kindness in reviewing my problems...ah yes, Google tool bar...I did a regedit this weekend, and saw all kinds of unwanted goodies...I think my problems began when I downloaded Real Arcade Games from my Internet provider...I saw my computer getting slower and slower...I deleted tons of unwanteds from my computer, restored it a couple of times to earlier times, did some cleaning up, and finally got IE up and running again (and also managed to almost delete my entire Outlook Express in the process), but things are at least working...however, I've notice that my computer is still quite slow and "gummy." I installed Windows Beta Defender and did a full scan, but it shows nothing's wrong - Adaware too. I will investigate your advice, because oddly enough I tried to update tonight with what turned out to be Service Pak 3 and got an error reply that some file was missing and I should look for it. I'm going to attach another Hijack report here, maybe you can see something else? I'm really grateful you took the time to have a look for me - wishing you the best kharma - Zensalad

Fix that line - I can't find much on this.

Do you have System Restore enabled and working? Before making any changes, make sure that you made a manual System Restore point and that it works.

To test the Restore function of SR:
Make a manual rstore point, then take any executable file ( extension .exe), and burn it out and/or move it to the My Documents folder and delete it from it's original location. SR does not monitor files in My Documents folder regardless of file type.

Then restore to the the manual restore point, the deleted executable should be back in it's original location. Afterwards, you can delete the copy in My Documents.


Does the system still run sluggishly in Safe Mode?

I would do the following to troubleshoot the slowness problem:

Go into msconfig and uncheck all the startups. Then see how the system operates, then re enable the starups one by one, testing the system after each startup.

If you haven't done so, read this post and run your processes thru the data bases linked to in the thread - some may be run as on demand instead of as startups.

Hey Charles, many thanks for your attentions...

I will do all the things you suggest...however, with my schedule I might have to do these things over the weekend. I'm pretty sure that my System Restore is working, but will do all as you suggest to be sure.

I did not have the sluggish problem in "Safe Mode "...only when I went back to my regular log-on. However, I will also check the msconfig suggestions.

Cannot download newest update from Microsoft...it's actually Service Pack 3...what happens is it initializes then tries to install, but I get an error message saying I'm missing the file "PRO.MSI" and should look for it. Any suggestions about that?
