My sister has Windows XP, I did a format with a software called Nuke and Boot, it took everything off including the operating system. I insert the cd recovery and it wont start up, I did change the Bios where the cd will start up first, all it keep saying Operating System Not found.

Watch for a screen while the computer is booting up for the line "Press any key to boot from CD." If that line appears, press any letter key.

Are you using a recovery CD made by the computer's manufacturer, a burned copy, a recovery/restore CD from another computer or a regular retail XP disk?

Are you sure that you saved the BIOS changes? it seems like the computer is trying to boot from the hard drive.

I wonder if your recovery CD will work to a blank drive - others will no doubt comment on this. BTW there was no real need to format the drive. Most recovery disks do that anyway as the first step to restore the computer to the state it was in when delivered.

It's a recovery CD straight from the factory, it don't ask anything, the black screen appears and says Operating System Not Found. The reason I use Nuke and Boot, it suppose to take all information off where nothing could be recovered.

On the Pavilion computers I have seen the bulk of the Operating System for Recovery operations was stored as compressed images in a "hidden" FAT16 partition on the hard drive.

I think you "nuked" any chance of recovery.
    Call HP.

Possibly the CD is not designed to boot; try booting with msdos (such as what's on a win98 startup disk) on a floppy or CD and then run the program from the recovery CD.

Thanks sparrow, I tried the Me Disk, I thought it was going to do it. What I found out now after messing with it. I put another 256 Ram in her computer and that's when it started messing up and after I format it, the cd rom wouldn't take off. I found the ram was bad that I put in there and I had another DVD burner and I exchange it with that and so far...........it's restorings. Thanks guys for not giving up on me. :)

    Bad ram

It was the bad ram I put in there that was giving me the "Operating System Not found ". I tried it several times to be sure, everytime I put it back in there it would do it again. All is well now. Thanks.
