    Hey,

I have a question, I'm wondering how to use the msg command to message networked computers.

    I know that

    Code:
    msg * blah blah
will msg my computer but what i dont understand is how to send a message to another computer on the network. Let's just say teh internal I.P. for the particular computer is "192.168.1.102" and the computer name is "momdadpc ".

What would I type at the cmd prompt to have the ability to do this, i know its possible.

Sidenote all computers are XP pro machines.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    james

I've moved your thread to the Networking forum which is more appropriate.

Thanks for moving it, but this isn't really a networking problem

I think the command you want is Net Send. See this:

    http://www.amset.info/windows/netsend.asp

However, it uses the Messenger Service which is a service that is often missued and SP2 disables it by default. Best practice is to keep it disabled.

Whichever command you end up using (msg or net send), the syntax can be obtained by typing [command] /? at the command prompt.
Just like every other dos command.
