    Hello-
I had ME replaced with Win XP but NS 7.2 no longer opens up. The icon is there but doesn't open. 8.1 does but I'd like to return to using 7.2 or Thunderbird (thanks for the advice, Ramona) but either way, I need all of those e-mails back from NS 7.2. And my address book would be nice.

Any suggestions on how to get 7.2 going again or how to access and transfer all of my old e-mails to T-bird would be welcomed.

    Thank you.
    Rincon

I guess that you have not kept up with the changes from one OS to another.
WinXP keeps its profiles in a hidden location, which is different from Me's.
If everything has been saved you are ok, if not you have lost everything. I am assuming that you installed XP in the same computer which had Me.
For Netscape the profile locations are listed in this page

    Welcome to the Forum, Rincon!

    Rincon,

As Westside advised, the Profiles folder is hidden in Windows XP:
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

To search for files in the Application Data folder, go to Start | Search.
Under More Advanced Options select Search system folders, Search
Hidden Files and folders, and Search subfolders.

Do you get an error when you click on the Netscape icon? You may need to reinstall Netscape, but I would first uninstall the existing copy. This will have no effect on any of your Profile data.

    Thank you Westside and Ramona

    Hello-

First, I need to change my profile from Intermediate to beginner!

I did upgrade ME to XP on the same computer. Lesson learned on backing up everything.

Took your advice and uninstalled NS 7.2 and reinstalled it without success-it still won't open. No error message. Thunderbird picked up a few hundred old e-mails so not too bad.

I did find the Netscape 7.2 files and as soon as I figure out how to read the .dbx files I'll be happier. Hopefully, the data is intact. I will start looking for other files I thought had probably vaporized. Thanks again.

    Regards.

    Rincon

    Rincon,

DBX files are Outlook Express files? Do you mean the msf files? What other files are you looking for, perhaps Address Book for Thunderbird. If so, the Address Book file is abook.mab.

If you still want to use Netscape 7.2, then sounds like you need to create a new Profile, since reinstalling didn't help. I thought perhaps the install of the new OS had somehow messed up the Program Files, but obviously not.

Aren't .dbx the .msf equivalent for Outlook Express. If so, neither .dbx nor .msf are readable as they are the header files.
