My computer runs on Windows XP, SP2. I am the only user, and my user name is "LEE ". I found a whole bunch of files---of which I know nothing and nothing about how they got to where they are.

The path here involved is c:\documents & settings\LEE\jpi cache\file\1.0\--here are many files with extensions .gif, .jpg, .idx,or .class.
The folder jpi cache contains only two folders, namely, "file" as shown above, and a folder "jar ".
The folder named "file" contains only one folder, namely, "1.0" as shown above.
And finally it is the folder 1.0 which contains no additional folders, but many mystery files with different extensions .gif, jpg, .idx, .class.
QUESTION: CAN I SAFELY DELETE ALL OF THOSE FILES?

The second folder "jar" within the folder "jpi cache" contains only one folder "1.0" which contains many [but not as many as those mentioned above] files with the extension .idx, or the extension .zip. That whole path is c:\documnets&settings\LEE\jpi cache\jar\1.0\ --here about 8 or 10 .idx and .zip files.
CAN I SAFELY DELETE ALL OF THOSE FILES ?

INDEED, CAN I SAFELY DELETE THE ENTIRE FOLDER "jpi cache" AND ALL OF ITS CONTENTS?

This stuff is a mystery. I don' know where this stuff came from or what it is. If you can shed some light on this, I will appreciate the education. ---Lee

This is the cache for your Java Plug in. You won't damage anything if you delete the files inside (leave any subfolders), but it would be easier to use the cache tab of the Java Plug-In control panel to clear your cache. If you really don't want the folder there, then uncheck the enable caching tickbox.

Oh, and you could have found out that these directories were for the Java Plug In simply by googling "jpi" "file" "jar" and going to the first link. Not that much of a mystery.
