    Browse how? Network Neighborhood?

What happens if you try to connect by mapping a drive on the 2K PC to the XP PC?

Probably 2 symptoms of the same issue.

The NT systems (NT4/2K/XP) really don't like to play in a workgroup environment. Domains work much nicer. So you have to maybe do a few things.

Try making sure the XP system has a user account that exactly matches the 2K logon. Username, password, identical. Permissions suitable to your needs.

As a quick test you can try the following:

    Assume
. your workgroup is named mygroup
    . 2k PC is named 2K-pc
. an account exists on 2K-pc with username 2kuser, pwd 2kpwd
. with rights to a folder shared as 2kshare.

Map to 2K-pc from the XP system and select to connect as a different username. Then put in (where it asks for the account to use)

    mygroup\2kuser
    2kpwd

    And see if you connect.

    mygroup\

Is that the exact, complete error message? Couldn't find any close match and have never seen that one myself.

Also, check the event logs for the time of the failure and see what you have for entries. If anything seems possibly related, post a copy of the event log entry. You can get it exact by opening the error and using the button to copy the error to the clipboard and then paste it here.

that was the exact error message i got

i looked in the event log, there was no error message in the
    time i was working on.

i was able to connect through computer managment concel in 2k
using the same username in both computer, but still i had no
    permission to access any folder.

    i got
< access denied, you don't have permission to access folder " ">

i have 3 xp in the same workgroup and rest are 2k

i can't even connect form xp to xp in the same workgroup.

i want to make some kind chart to make it easy to remember

connect xp -> 2k able to do
connect xp -> xp unable to do
connect 2k -> xp unable to do
connect liunx -> 2k able to do (using samba)
connect liunx -> xp unable to do even by using samba

my only concern to get these working is to do backup.

    thanks again.
