i just got a 40x plextor burner. i can burn music cds ok, but data is lacking a lot. i have used both easy cd creator 5.2 platinum, and the latest version of nero. after the burn is done and i look at the files on the, it has some bad filenames. for instance, "autorun/exe" instead of "autorun.exe." that's what happened when i burned a bin image in nero. i then tried a data cd, which it also named "filename/avi ". easy cd creator did the same thing. the burner is extremely fast, but that does no good if i can't read the cds. if i try and copy the file to my hard drive in order to rename it, i get an error saying that "windows cannot read from the source disk." has anyone encountered this or heard about it? please help. i don't want to waste any more cds than i have to.

by the way i am using windows xp pro. thunderbird 1.4 gig/ 512 mb ddr ram. the hard drive is a maxtor 60 gig ata 100 7200 rpm. i also tried burning from a mapped network drive with easy cd creator, but i got a buffer underrun.

Some CDR media is rate to a max speed, so perhaps only burn your CDs at ex 12 speed and see if you still have a problem?

    regarding underruns:

    A) use the "burnprof" option.
    B) install the drive on a different IDE bus than your HD.
    C) Don't burn from remote/network drives.
