Just read instructions in this forum for formatting and reinstalling WIN XP and it states delete partition.

I have recently re-installed Windows. I used Startup disk to format partition but didn't delete partition first. Then I used Windows CD to setup/install. Have I done it incorrectly?

What you did is fine. The idea is to get rid of the previous install. Reformatting did this.

No, not at all - there are several methods and it is not necessary to delete the partition.

I rather fancy you saw my instructions in another thread for reinstalling XP with XP already installed. That method does not require the use of a boot disk, startup disk or whatever and can be run directly from the installation CD.

Edit - Steve beat me to it :)
