I just downloaded firefox browser and for some reason i can't check my yahoo mail...could someone please help....i keep getting the following message, but i can check with another browser with no problem... :(

Error #3: Your login session has expired.
    Why does my session expire?

Login sessions expire for two reasons.

    1. For your security, your Yahoo! Mail session expires a maximum of twenty-four hours after you have logged in. If you have chosen in your Yahoo! User Information (found be visiting "My Account" next to the Yahoo! Mail logo at the top of this page) to be prompted for a password more frequently than every day, your session will expire after the specified amount of time.
    2. If you do not accept the cookies set on login or your computer is not configured to accept cookies, your session will expire almost immediately. We use cookies (small pieces of site information) to assist us in user authentication and in saving configuration information. Cookies are required for Yahoo! Mail.

If you see this message immediately after logging in, you should check the following:

    * Check to see that your computer system time is accurate. Cookies are time sensitive and may not work if your computer date is incorrect by a large amount.
    * Make sure that your browser is configured to accept cookies or that you agree to accept cookies during the login process.
    * Turn off any third party programs or control panels that automatically reject cookies.

Aside for the fact that, I, thoroughly dislike some of Yahoo policies, I can easily access it through four different builds of Firefox.I accept all cookies, but don't save the password.
If you have no problem with IE, then it is not likely that it is outside the browser. Which other browser works? Which Firefox version do you have?
    I have 1.0.8, 1.5.0.6, 2.0b2, and 3.0a1.

    candielicker ...

I can't begin to answer your question about your Yahoo mail, as mine works perfectly with Firefox versions 1.5.0.6, 2.0b2, and 3.0a1.

Note that Firefox 1.5.0.6 is the current release; 2.0b2 and 3.0a1 are pre-release beta and alpha versions intended only for testing. Most extensions, as written, will not work with 3.0a1. So far as I can tell, 1.8 is a Linux-only release.

If you feel really adventurous, you can download 2.0b2 here and 3.0a1 here, but I'd advise sticking with 1.5.0.6, which is always available here.

I agree 100% with Jim. 2.0b2 is not final. It may be released soon, but, stick to 1.5.0.6. The Yahoo mail problem is not in Firefox, so you should look at some outside program, which may interfere.
Jim, which 1.8 are you referring to? I had listed Firefox1.0.8, which the older version.

    Westside ...

Sorry, a mis-read on my part, and I have no idea where I got the info about FF 1.8 (being Linux-only), as there is no 1.8 release for any OS. 1.8 was/is the version of the Gecko rendering engine used in the "DeerPark" versions, which began with FF 1.1a1, and are current with 1.5.0.6.

I know there are other roadmaps for Firefox development but, perhaps, the most comprehensive can be found at Wikipedia. The page is more or less current as of 1 Sept 06, except that the codename for version 3.0 development has been changed from "Gran Paradiso" to "Minefield" (let's hope that's not indicative of trouble ahead :)).

    Jim,
talking about Minefield, it was nothing but trouble, initially. In fact, I posted at another newsgroup that it had a very appropriate name (sorry no links). But, i went back to it, and have had no problems with it. I do daily incremental updates, and has chugged along since 8-22. I do incremental updates with 2.0b2, which have since 7-22, and listed as b1.
Some incremental updates fail, and require a complete update, using with 3.0.
I have most extentions working, in 3.0, a few kicking and screaming, but Mr Tech is a good slave driver.

Again, I have difficulty understanding why you can't access your Yahoo mail from Firefox ... trust me, I believe that you can't, but yours may be the first such complaint I can think of. I'm glad you've found a compromise, but I have to believe that your problem lies somewhere other than with Firefox.

On the other hand, have you installed any Firefox extensions which might be causing the problem?

Have you gone into Control Panel > Internet Options (which deals with Internet Explorer) and cleared all cookies and temporary internet files?

What is your default browser (grasping at straws here :))?

Same here. Extentions could cause problems, Themes could cause problems, but more widespread than one feature.
That "gave it some IE properties sounds scary, but, again not a reason for problems as described. There are two extention for Firefox which give it IE properties. IE View, which opens IE, so it is just a link, but, otherwise, IE is opened separately from firefox, and IE Tab, which uses the IE engine in Firefox.
I used the latter, extensively, and, it worked fine, most of the time, in most sites. But, recently, it crashed Firefox, with a few sites. I did not try yahoo.com. however, I am using IE Tab only when I need it, like for Windows Updates.
In all fairness, you should disable all extentions in Firefox, before saying that it is no good. If installed, you can go to All Programs|Firefox|Firefox safe mode. or Start|Run|browse to firefox.exe, and type in: -safe-mode, with keyboard space between the .exe and the -.
KMeleon has no extentions. It tries to be very simple. I am using the closely related KNinja (sorry I cannot give an easy link to download, at this point).
KNinja is toying with the idea of having built in extentions.
But, I am using seven different versions of gecko-based browsers, and, never had a problem with Yahoo.

You can download K-Ninja 2.0.2 here.

K-Ninja installed quickly and easily but, instead of letting me decide where it should be installed, it installed in "My Programs" by default. It doesn't behave like any browser I'm used to and, even though I finally was able to import my Firefox bookmarks, I see no reason to keep K-Ninja on my computer.

FWIW, K-Ninja's current version is 2.0.2. The 1.8.0.6 tacked onto "K-Ninja2.02" in Westside's signature refers only to the version of Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine that K-Ninja uses ... the same one used in Firefox 1.5.0.6.

    Jim,
FYI. K-Ninja is downloaded as a .zip file, which becomes the installer when unzipped. I, never, paid attention to the installation location, but like most programs, it has, always, installed in Program File. Some people do not pay attention, as you did, and have to go through all sort of acrobatics with find the installed program. While v.1.x had the profile in the installation folder, K-Ninja2.0.x has the profile in App. Data, like other programs.
I, actually, am using KN2.0.3 beta-1.8.0.7. You pointed out, correctly, that the last four digits apply to the gecko rv.
KNinja is very much like KMeleon, with a few twists. You either love it, or hate it. I felt like you did, at the onset. But, it is more advanced than most other programs, in some ways. I love KN (and KM) feature which allows one to link to a non-default mail client.
As for the download location, I have had an awful time. The direct download had given me and others, regularly, and error. The mirrors had been a nightmare.
However, I was able to get the latest download at the default location.

We've gotten way off the original subject of this thread, but I hope candielicker, and any others who may read it, may get some insights from these posts.

I by-passed that step, assuming that any users considering K-Ninja would be advanced enough to realize that. :)

I segregate many of my installed programs (all of which are on the D: partition of my hard drive), just for housekeeping purposes. Most go into D:\PROGRAMS, but my internet-related programs go into D:\INTERNET. K-Ninja installed to D:\PROGRAMS without permitting me to choose otherwise.

    Found here.
