So I've been recently hit with the "Generic Host Process for Win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close" message yesterday when I got back home, as soon as I booted my laptop and Windows had loaded. Now my computer won't connect at all to the internet. It doesn't detect any wireless networks in the area, especially the one in my home, despite the fact that the workstation I'm currently doing this on is right next to that laptop. I've downloaded multiple updates related to this through this workstation and moved the files through my USB flash drive to install them onto the non-connecting laptop.

I've sent the logs now. Sorry for the delay since yesterday. I hope something can be done. :(

I've also looked around to download HJT and I've collected a log file using it in case that's needed as well.

I did download the patch yesterday and it didn't fix anything on my computer. It still cannot connect to anything. The error message hasn't popped up once since I first got it, which is when I lost all connection.

    Hi Filipe,

I've received your logs and will review them later this evening (gotta get some dinner). Will post back with some suggestions later. ;)

    Hi Filipe,

I don't see anything in your logs to suggest you would have further problems with the Generic Host Process error, so I have a few questions.

    1. Was the last time you had the error after the first reboot since applying the patches?

    2. Have you rebooted a second time, and do you still get the error?

    3. Does your laptop connect properly if wired directly, whether to a dialup or LAN connection?

    4. Have you tried shutting down all connected devices, unplugging router and modem, plug in modem and wait for it to ready, plug in router and wait for ready, then startup each machine, allowing each to fully boot before powering up the next?

If the only problem you are still experiencing is with a wireless connection, and the above doesn't help, could you give us some details about your connection setup? eg; what type of wireless router (brand and model), router setup (using DHCP, WEP encryption, static or automatic IP assignments, etc.)
The event viewer logs suggest that the laptop is setup for automatic IP and DNS Server addressing. Is that correct? Is DHCP enabled? WEP?

    1. The last and only time I ever got the error was the first time it happened when I booted up Windows.
    2. The error never came up again after any reboots.
    3. It does connect to the internet when connected directly through cable, including directly to my modem and directly to my router.
    4. Yes. I would shut down the laptop, disconnect the power to the router, and turn off the modem, then powered them on one after another with the laptop last.

The router is a Netgear MR814v2. The modem is a Speedstream 5100. The wireless router does use WEP and DHCP.

I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or not now. I've tried other places with wireless LANs and still it does not detect anything when in range. Device Manager says my driver for my wireless network adapter is working fine.

I've sent System and Application logs from today.

    LOL

I am so sorry, guys. There was a simple solution, which wasn't obvious to me. The laptop indicated that the wireless was not powered on, and a keyboard button turned it on. I know I did not press anything to turn it off.

Anyways, I can connect wirelessly now. I haven't gotten that error again.

Really appreciate the help, though. :)

I know how it all happened now, and it sure made me feel stupid. When I got the error, one of my small speakers hit the screen of my laptop, so I was freaking out that it was a hardware problem. I even inspected the wireless card to see if there was some physical damage. That error also made me think it could have been a software problem. Well, after seeing that the wireless was not ON, a button fixed everything. A BUTTON. So obviously that speaker somehow managed to press the button, which is leveled with the keyboard, not protruding.

Bah. Sorry I wasted your time. :p Have a great day, guys.
