Hi, I have just got a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 1000, and it works OK , but in the book they mention clipping the mouse and the Receiver together to shut the mouse off. But can't see how.?
Does the mouse just stop on all the time when you shut the PC down or am I missing something , any info would be great, what does everyone else do ?
Also it connects thru one of the USB ports , can I connect it to the Mouse port like my old Optical mouse, that has a USB fitting plugged into an adapter in to the mouse port?
    Cheers Des.

Hi Des, I have had little experience with them, although I might have a little info for you.
The motherboard still has power even though the system is powered off. Some motherboards still supply power to a PS/2 connected mouse when "off ", I doubt they will supply power to a USB connected mouse. In your case the USB connected wireless receiver will probably be not be supplied with power when the system is off. If there is no signal from the receiver, the laser light on the mouse will be off. The mouse itself though will still be running it's transmitter/receiver.
ANYWAY...if the mouse does not seem to have the "clip" (see if the manual refers to other models as well), the best you could do would be to place the mouse next to the receiver when you shut down.

Looking at the information on the label of my wired PS/2 optical mouse, the voltage is 5V and it draws 100mA of current. If you can find the figures for the wireless receiver and the current is not much higher than 100mA, it should be OK to use the adapter. The laser light may stay on though, when the system is powered off, as I said above (and then the mouse batteries will run low very quickly).

    Matt

    Hi Demon

Wireless optical mice .... The mouse is powered by batteries - as you know :) and in a wireless desktop set such as I use (MS) both the mouse and the keyboard remain powered up all the time regardless of whether or not the computer is on or off. Even so batteries last for months, but they do note that if the mouse/keyboard is not to be used for some time to remove the batteries. I only do that if I am to be away for more than 2 weeks.

I cannot find details of the WOM 1000 on MS, but if it is anything like the Wireless Optical Notebook mouse which I use on the laptop it is it 2 parts - mouse and a receiver which plugs into a USB port. The receiver is designed to clip into the base of the mouse when not in use and actuates a microswitch which turns off the mouse battery power.

Hi. Petec, Thanks for info, I see in my book it cover your mouse as well and I think the clipping part must refer to the pocketbook mouse , because there isn't any way to clip my setup together.
It looks to me as if there is only a pilot light on all the time and when you move the mouse the big light comes on from the side , so I guess it is like being on standby and only uses minimal power.
    Thanks again Cheers Des.:)
