 I have a strange problem with Netscape 7.2. Something happened a couple of months ago with all my stored email information. It used to always be stored in Netscape's original setup Profiles/default/mx2jz8e8.slt/Mail located in C/Documents and Settings/Skeet F/Application Data/Mozilla and I was always able to copy Profiles from it for a backup of all my filed and saved emails.

Now, since the "happening" (I think it had something to do with my main email service changing it’s Server Name under my Server Settings), I have another location where Netscape also stores a lot of my email information; it's in Profiles/skeetf @ ****.net/lpdsgjuj.slt/Mail located in C/WINDOWS/Application Data/Mozilla/.

Netscape uses both areas to store information; my email files appear to be current in the C/WINDOWS/…./Mail folder and all Netscape’s small files seem to be current in the C/Documents and Settings/…./Profiles/default/mx2jz8e8.slt folder.

I would like to get a single folder again with all my information and to be able to save backup copies of only one Profiles folder. If I can get this fixed then I’m going to look in to Foxfire!

    Thanks for any help,

    SKEETF:confused:

Firefox (not foxfire) is a browser only, but it goes with Thunderbird which is mail only. You could install TB, and select the settings for the profile which you want.
But, in any event a new .slt folder should have not shown up, unless you created it. It is obvious from the name that this happened. You should be able to get as many accounts that you want in a single profile. Now, if the server has been changed, you would need to create a new account. The old account would be inactive, unless there ia forwarding service between the two.
But, if your old account is finished, you should be able to copy its Inbox, after renaming it, and paste it into the new account folder. Everything would be in one place.
Is this what you want? Or did I miss something?

Thanks for the reply. During an email session the original *.slt folder is full of Netscape files and some of them are updated. The newer *.slt file contains no files at all only folders. One of the folders is Mail and contains apparently all the email files I am using and is always updated.

If I understand you, since both Profile folders are active during an email session I'm not going to be able to have a single working Profile file by copying parts one to the other. That's the reason to start a new account?

My Inbox is emptied at each session so I don't understand the renaming and copying remark of yours. Doesn't setting up a new account create an Inbox I can just use? I do have a lot of other email files I will need to copy to the new account.

Also, I noticed that after creating a new account, it is placed at the bottom of the Account Window. Since it's my main email is there anyway to to move it back to the top of the window?

    Thanks, SKEETF

    Skeet,

You can consolidate the two profiles.

First: Close Netscape, and make a backup copy of your Profiles folder

    Next:
Rename the Inbox file in the new Profile to Inbox2, the one which you describe with no files, and only folders.

Copy the renamed Inbox to the original Profile.

Open Netscape Mail, and highlight the renamed Inbox
    Press CTRL + A
    Right click the highlighted files
Select from the menu: Copy to
Select from that menu: Your original account's Inbox

Once you see that all the mail is intact, and you can access everything, then you can delete the renamed Inbox.

You can then delete the newer Profile folder, and have only your original Profile.

    SkeetF,
with only a couple of accounts, you can select from Mail and Accounts settings, your present mail account, and make it your default. Restart your program, and the order will be changed, with your present main account on top.

Thanks for the information you guys. I'll try what you suggest.
I'm going to be out of town for a week and will try it when I get back
    and let you all know.

    Thanks again,
    SKEETF:) :)
