I know I'll get flak for coming on a Windows forum as a mac user, but this is a windows related problem :D

Ok, at home I have a wireless network consisting of a Wanadoo Livebox and a PC with all the software on, running XP. I want to connect my macbook, which is running airport extreme (801.11g) to this network. At the mac end, everything works fine, I put in the WEP ID and then I get an error message saying that my PC isn't allowing a connection because the mac isn't on the access control list.

Basically, is there any easy way to add my mac to the access control list, or make my network open access?

You need to connect the router directly to either PC with a cable or wired connection (preferred).

Now sit down first at the working XP computer.
Click the Start button, click Run, and type: CMD
    ipconfig /all >config.txt
    exit.

Now use Windows Explorer to find config.txt. Double click it twice to open the file in Notepad. Highlight the text with your mouse, right-click and Copy.

Return to the Forum and right-click, Paste in a new response to my message.

Basicly we are going to connect to the router's Web-based Setup.
There we will find an option to Edit or Add to the MAC filter.

(I hope you realize in this context that "MAC" does not refer to Macintosh, but to a physical address on your network adapter. You can find MAC addresses on the Macintosh in the TCP/IP Control Panel. If the system is running Open Transport, the MAC address appears under the "Info" or "User Mode/Advanced" screens. If the system is running MacTCP, the MAC address appears under the "Ethernet" icon. In any case carefully write it down.)

Last thing I need is the Manufacturer, Make and Model number for the router you want to use.

Start Internet Explorer on the XP PC.
In the address bar enter: http://192.168.1.1/

The username and password are admin & admin respectivelyl.

Do you get the Web setup page?

Now find the MAC filter table. Look for anything mentioning wireless security.

Thankyou very much for your time.

I found the MAC filter list in the admin section, and turned it off, and now everything works fine :D

    Thanks again!

PS I know that this makes the network less secure, but I live in the middle of nowhere so that's not too much of an issue.

It is not such a great security measure.

I could determine your mac address without a problem by scanning for ARP requests.
