Here are the specs on the system in question:

    -Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe MB
    -AMD X2 4800+
-Maxtor 250g IDE at Primary Master - swapped IDE cables with brand new ones
-Western digital 80g IDE at Primary Slave
-LG Dual layer DVD burner at Secondary IDE Master
-Samsung 250g IDE at Secondary Slave
-Samsung 250g at Sata1 -No raid
    -Seagate 250g at Sata2
    -Ram 4 x 512 OCZ pc3200 - tested 20 passes no errors
-Enermax Liberty 500watt PSU - tested working fine also has proper wattage/amp supply
    -eVGA 6800 256mb videocard PCI

Ive spent the last two days trying to installing windows XP on this system, Ive tried different harddrives/configs, ram chips/configs, Ive disabled numerous Bios settings(flashed bios), different XP discs/Disc Drives.

The first error I ran into involved the ACPI on the MB, I was able to bypass this problem by pressing f7 at the appropriate time, I sometimes was able to get to the screen that let me choose where to install windows to, but mostly I get a stop error 0x00000019 and can procede no further, this happens after it has loaded the device drivers and starts the windows setup. When I finally get a configuration that seems to work, windows setup will crash with a 0x00000050 error.

The one time I managed to get a install working, I had everything removed except primary master and secondary master as listed above, however the install crashed with a 0x00000019 error when the install was suppose to restart. A manual restart brought it to the next install screen where it configures devices, sets up network, ect.. I was able to get to a working install of windows and installed the drivers for the MB that came from the CD Asus supplied . I rebooted to complete the install and hit a 0x00000019 error at the windows loading screen. 0x00000050 at safemode loading screen. Im stuck at this point now (I cant reinstall again with this same "working" setup) and cant think of anything more to try. Hopefully someone has some ideas or suggestions to get this system working as i have run out.

The only thing I have not swapped out is the video card, I do not have another PCIe video card to try. Also i should mention i just took this video card out of my A8N5X where my northbridge fan died, which caused my NB to overheat. I tried to google if this could damage my videocard and be the cause of my problems but I have not found any relevant information. I do have a legacy PCI video card I will try, if no other options are presented.

First, remove one end of the logic cable and unplug:

A-LG Dual layer DVD burner at Secondary IDE Master
B-Samsung 250g IDE at Secondary Slave
    C-Samsung 250g at Sata1 -No raid
    D-Seagate 250g at Sata2

Second, go into the BIOS and save the settings (for the new configuration.)

    Now try to install Windows.

Third, if the installation succeeds, add back A&B, but reverse their installation. Make B the Secondary Master this time. Be sure the jumpers on A&B are set to reflect their new position on the secondary IDE buss.

See if you can find updated SATA drivers.

If no issues for several days, add C

If no issues for several days, add D

I'll try what you suggest, I will need the optical drive to install windows so I will put in on primary slave ( My understanding of your post is to leave secondary channel and sata channels empty), i also have other optical drives i can swap in just to test.

Thanks for the advice, im trying it now and will keep you posted.

Thanks for the suggestion Bill Caster unfortunetly i got the same errors as above. I tried just booting the old installation without anything but the primary master harddrive and got 0x00000019, 0x00000050 in safemode. I was unsuccessfull to reinstall with the optical drive in the primary slave position.

Im swapping out the video card and putting in the old legacy one i have. this card was stable with a system i put together just a few weeks ago.

    Thanks,
    Enrique

The complaint is about a driver; ableit it is possible a driver crashing from a device that is not responsive.

I was hoping you would do a clean install with onboard video, and one IDE drive and on the secondary IDE channel one optical drive.

Clean meaning removing all partitions, adding a new partition, formatting and installing XP.

thanks for the response Bill Castner,

I have been doing clean installs the whole time. Including wiping the existing partitions and trying different harddisk drives and configurations.

The only time I actually got a install working and windows running, was using the primary master with a hard drive and the secondary master with an optical drive, however this crashed very quickly. (see above)

The motherboard doesnt have onboard video, so ive tried a PCIe video card, as well as a legacy pci video card with fresh installs.

Could we leave the ASUS driver diskette out of the equation for the moment. I do not see a video issue, though it is certainly possible. My own personal guess is that your are using outdated or inappropriate chipset level drivers and/or SATA drivers.

See if you can download new SATA drivers from ASUS.
See if they have an update to their chipset level drivers for XP.

    a shot in the dark...

    Enrique,

Are you trying to install WinXP on the Maxtor drive? I recently purchased a couple of Maxtor drives and they were both defective. I spent several hours trying to install WinXP (tried both new drives). Get the HD diagnostic utility from the Maxtor website (if you don't have it already) and see if that finds anything. I finally gave up, returned the Maxtor drives, bought I new Samsung HD. Installed XP on the first attempt and got on with my life. :D
I've always used Maxtor drives and this is the first time I've ever had a problem like this. I must say this new Samsung HD is 'pretty sweet'. (It's quiet, fast, and it works!)

Thanks for the replys and suggestions,

So far ive tried 4 different makes of harddrives in numerous locations, so im ruling out any harddrive issue.

@bill castner This is what im thinking too, so far ive tried using the sata drivers on the cd-rom by copying their text setup's to floppy. However I am still getting the device driver blue screens. Im trying again with the latest drivers, downloaded from asus's site, and will keep you posted.

I will try chipset drivers once i have ruled out sata drivers, Only problem here is I will have to add them manually to the actuall install cd? (I can not get a working install to do this in windows)

At this point im thinking the MB itself may be faulty, If I cannot get this system working by monday I'm going to exchange the MB for a new one.

    Enrique,

I'm running an ASUS board also (A8N-SLI prem.) No need to install separate SATA drivers they are included with the nForce drivers. If you are not using RAID make sure it is 'disabled' in the BIOS.

I am replying to this thread on the system in question. WOOT !!!

I was able to install windows without a problem and set up all my device drivers and software, I do believe this is the end to all my problems.

The problem was with the Motherboard, I had to do a few wierd things in bios and in the windows install to make it work:

1 - I pressed F5 in windows install and select PC type : ACPI Multiprocessor PC.
2 - Disabled APM in bios.
3 - Disabled Legacy USB support.
    4 - Disabled Parellel port.

Apparently im not the only one that has had this problem with the A8N32-SLI Deluxe. Ive also heard of people enabling their parallel port in bios to enable windows to install and a few other wierd senario's.

I have all my bios settings enabled now and everything works great.

Thanks to everyone who has offered their time and assistance, it is greatly appreciated.
You guys have a great forum, I used to be a member but couldnt remember my account/pass, came here and posted quite a bit, bout a year ago :)
