    Hi,

Just upgraded from w98SE to xp home. And lo and behold on opening Firefox and T'bird all emails, addresses and bookmarks have disappeared. Have been searching for a solution and know about C:/documents...profiles but am really not sure what I am looking for - there is a profile folder there but is it the one that I want? and what do I do with it?

Can anyone help me find these things so that I can sleep in peace :)

    Ta,
    Robyn

    Robyn,

Look in your Account Settings and see if the Local directory is listed as C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\
If not, change it to that location and check to see if everything comes back for you.

Most important, in XP: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

And, then you will be able to view the files mentioned by Minnesota Mike.
This is a WinXP thing, and all AP,Data folders are hidden.

    Thanks

Thanks for the info - but I've tried all that previously and it didn't work - and tried it again now and it still didn't work. Do you know what the extensions are for the address book in Thuderbird and the bookmarks in Firefox and I could possibly search for those and see if I can locate them. Other than that - any other ideas??

    Welcome to the Forum, robyn!

    Robyn,

The Firefox Bookmarks file name: bookmarks.html
The bookmarks.html file is located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.profilename

The Thunderbird Address Book file name: abook.mab
The abook.mab file is located here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.profilename

    NOTE:
To search for files in the Application Data folder, go to Start | Search.
Under More Advanced Options select Search system folders, Search
Hidden Files and folders, and Search subfolders.
