    Hello,
well I've successfully messed something up with how window opens folders, and even dell tech support could not figure it out.

I was in the process of creating a new "right click action" for new folders to run a purge program...long story...still not working correctly.

Now when I double click on any folder it automatically goes to search instead of opening up the folder.

What I need to know is when going into folder options\file types\file folder\advanced, there is no "open" action, only a "find" action.

I can go back there to create a new action and name it "open" but I don't know what to associate with "application used to perform the action ".

What application or command actually "opens" a basic folder?

Thanks in advance for your help!

FYI, This problem is most often caused by opening Explorer or My Computer and clicking on the Tools > Folder Options > File Types > selecting "File Folder" and then clicking OK instead of Cancel. Even though you have only looked and made no changes, changes will nevertheless be made IF you have selected Folder or File Folder and IF you then click OK. To avoid this, always click "Cancel" when you don't intend to change things.

I'm surprised that Dell Support hasn't heard of this problem and the fix. Perhaps they need to train their support people better since this problem has been around more than 4 years.

    Thanks Bill!

That fixed the double click to open issue!

Do you know how to deleate a cutom folder "action" once created? For some reason the "edit" and "remove" boxes are greyed out and not selectable?

If you don't know, then thanks again for the previous reply!

Yes you would think they would now.

The simplest repair, works in most cases:

    Start, Run, and type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
