My computer has been shutting done suddenly at random and getting the dreaded blue screen of death. It shuts off so quickly I can not even read what the blue screen says, but when the computer restarts I get the message that Winlogon.exe has encountered an error. I have tried to restore my computer to an earlier time, but it hasn't helped.

Right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery - Settings, and uncheck to automaticly restart in the event of errors.

    Questions:

. do you have a firewall enabled?
. do you have an antivirus program installed?
. do you have an anti-spyware type program installed?
. are you current with all updates from Windows Update?

Because I think you have a malware problem.

If automatic restart is disabled, you should be able to read the Blue screen and post back the error message and error number.

    If not, Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

This is your event logs. Look for errors marked with a red exclamation mark around the time of the shutdown.

Finally, this might not be an OS issue at all. Your power supply could be failing, you could have the all-too common issue of leaking capacitors, and/or you have a component that fails only when hot and/or stressed (RAM is a good source of this problem).
