In the last 3 days I have been getting many error reports to report problems to MS while using Firefox. I ran NAV and Giant antispywrare, but they find nothing. I wonder if something has changed?
How would I go about upgrading to a more current version without losing all my bookmarks and tabs? I installed this Firefox using the zipped version rather than using the installer. Now I understand I must use the installer, right?

Your configuration information, including bookmarks, is contained in your FF profile folder, rather than the program folder, and shouldn't be affected by installing a newer version. If you're really concerned, copy the bookmarks.html file in the profile folder to a safe location before proceeding.

Delete the program folder for the zipped version, then install the latest version (1.5.0.6).

I'd suggest cleaning your registry of any references to Firefox (and they'll be there ... even the zipped versions write to the registry, even though they aren't installed) before installing the updated version.

Just to add to what Jim said, you should not have to use the installer, and the new program, unzipped or installed will pick up the profile.
It is desirable, though not necessary to clean the registry. I would not know what it would do with a 1.0.x vs.1.5.x. I clean my registry periodically, and, as Jim said there is, at least one registry key to chuck, when using an unzipped file.
The main concern could be the incompatibility of some extention.
As for bookmarks and tabs, you can save the tabs in your bookmarks, in first place, and just copy the bookmarks.html of 1.0.x, and save it somewhere.
I prefer to have brand new profiles for a major update.
My experience with unzipped files has been ok. I never had any windows error. I wonder what it was. You must have been getting some detail. I tell Microsoft to mind its business, but it may be time to move on. If you wait a few more weeks, you will have Firefox2.0, whose beta2, which I am testing right now.

IMHO, Mel Reyes's MR Tech Local Install extension should be the first extension that anyone installs, as it makes managing all other extensions so much easier ... in fact, it might better be called "MR Tech Extension Manager ". Among other things, it takes care of extension incompatibilities, as it incorporates the Nightly Tester Tools extension.

Unfortunately, Local Install's interface will intimidate many (if not most) users. This post describes what I think are the only important features for most users.

Many thanks for your responses. Do I have to delete any add-ons or plugins before I install the latest version?
If v2.0 is coming soon, perhaps I will wait for it.

First of all, I just mentioned incompatibility, fully knowing that Jim would bring up Mr Tech Local Install. He taught me about it, and I have it in all my programs.
Install the "Manager' (which it really is), leave the extentions in place, and then, make them all compatible. It works with FF2.0, 3.0 nightlies, with the exception of some ancient extention.
Mr Tech works fine. Only exception is that dingbat NS8.1, which has a life of its own. The extention does what it can, as Jim, so wisely, said to me in the past.
