Is it possible and could someone tell me how to use a usb flash drive to store pass words instead of them being on my hard drive? i like the convenience of having my pass words remembered but would like the security of being able to simply remove the flash drive to make them unavaliable to anyone else. i would need a way to tell the computer where to look for them.
as a second part, is it possible to be able to use a usb flash drive as kind of a key to enable or prevent the computer from booting?
Thanks in advance. i have learned a lot from just reading various posts and want to thank the volunteers who help thoes of us who are trying to learn.
I build my own computers but the software part still makes me scratch my head a lot and wonder, why did i do that? sorry this is so long, its my first post.

I am not sure if you can change where your passwords are stored, short of moving your profile. I wouldn't suggest storing your profile on a flash drive and removing it while logged in.

It is possible, assuming you can set your BIOS to boot from a USB drive. If you just want some added security though, I suggest adding a key switch. Directions can be found here, and on many other sites on the web (search for "Key switch" "install ").

    pass word programs

    hi
i downloaded both Pins and Roboform2go and i think one of these will do the trick for keeping my pass words safe. i thank you very much for helping me.

this leads to another important question. Now that i can keep them safe on a usb flashdrive. i set up the PINs on a flash drive and it works great and now i wonder how i can get windows to forget the pass words i had them remember? i use windows xp home edition. i haven't installed service pack2 yet but i had them send it to me on cd. should i install this and do i need to in order to have windows xp forget the pass words i had it remember?

    thanks again

Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options (Or Control Panel -> Internet Options) -> Content -> Autocomplete -> Clear Forms, Clear Passwords, probably uncheck the "Use Autocomplete for..." section.

In the Alternative Use FireFox w/Clear private Data

In the alternative you may use FireFox with the Clear Private Data extension.

You get an Icon that allows clearing private data with just two keystrokes.

Includes history, saved form information, cookies, cache and authenticated sessions.

There is now a similar function in IE 7 - Delete Browsing History
