While looking for something else found in - -HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>InternetSettings>ZoneMape>Ranges

Something over 1000 ranges each showing an IP address.

Spent some time looking thru them and found a few that I recognized, checked some in Whois and found many that I didn't recognize.

Does anyone know what this is and what the purpose of it is?
    Any info appreciated much!

Do you use SpywareBlaster or Spybot S&D immunize feature or some other anti-ware that puts things in your IE zones? It could be entries from such an app.

Depending on what the value is, determines, I think, whether it is in the restricted zone or another one.

    Thanks David!
Just had time to glance at the Microsoft article but will read it in depth later. Hope none of these hundreds of IP addresses are malware. Anyway to make sure that they are not?
    Thanks,

DavidED--Never looked at this before. I suspect, as TeMerc said, that these are IP addresses of sites from which IE is blocked. At least that would be the case where Data=4, which seems to be the case for all the ones I looked at.
(I think these are (or perhaps part of) your Restricted Sites.)
So these are malware sites, but you are being protected against them!!
Spybot can put them there. So can other programs (like SpywareBlaster and IESpyAds), or you can enter them manually.
Not sure what the difference is between the Ranges and Domains keys. But I see some Domains on my PC have DNS addresses with Data=2.
That means permitted. I suspect that means a site in Trusted Sites.

    Thanks Jim!
You and TeMerc have set my mind at ease somewhat as originally I felt that these IP addresse's might have something to do with my host's file, but realized that it had over 12,000 items in it and there is only about 1000 of the range addresse's. Then with your IESpyad info I remembered that I had put the IESpyad list in my restricted site.
This may be what it is, but will do some more checking them against each other to make sure.

Surely appreciate the info from all of you.
    Thanks,
    DavidED
