When u have a folder full of mp3s windows XP recognises it and then it arranges them in order of artist...date etc......
this seems clever but it REALLY annoys me and i cant find anywhere to reset it.
i like to view my mp3s in order of "modified" cos then i can listen to the newer ones which im generally more keen on, and i have a general idea of where all of them are because i have a picture in my head of when i got them..... whereas with all their names...like...some have artist written before, others after, some have no info like that, some have brackets before the title...alphabetical arranging or anything like that is just impossible when u have over a thousand mp3s.......
so can anyone help me with how i get back to how things are arranged in normal folders? ive tried looking in folder properties etc but cant find anything.......
    thanx

    Hi Emerald Sword
Welcome tot he boards. Up at the top you should have buttons that say Name......size .......type......modified. Can you not click on the modified one and rearrange that way?

Daizy - nope, he can't until he does some modification. The My Documents folder (and it's sub-folders) on an XP system is not normal. Really not normal. It has columns for artist, album title, duration, year, date taken, dimensions, and some other odds & ends.

ES - I had never looked at the My Music folder before. Just did and I see your problem (as I told Daizy above).

My PC has an option under the "View" section for this folder called "choose details" which gives around 30 options for information that can be displayed and the stuff you want is there.

Also, if you have the proper detail set to display, you can have the folder "group" files for you by date or name (gives a break between names starting with "A ", "B ", etc.

Play around with this set of features for a while. It would seem as if M$ put lots of goodies into it.

thanx a lot newt that's done it

wonder if u have any ideas about another problem of mine.......
i downloaded a movie, while it was dling, i wanted to preview it, so copied and renamed the Temp file to .avi (this doesnt work anyway, so all round stupid), course it didnt open, but then it left my system extremely slow.
i restarted, and tried to delete the file, but it wouldnt let me, "the file is currently in use" - after i restarted! trying to close stuff in the task manager hasnt helped, still cant delete it.
if i try and view its properties, the system also slows down hugely, such that u basically have to restart again..... if i just let it alone..... thinks are OK (along with comps other problems)

ES - by far the simplest thing to do if you still have an older boot disk around (for any 9x/ME OS) would be to boot from it and delete the file but for that you will have to be using FAT32.

If you have NTFS, we gotta attack a little differently.

Daizy - try it, you will like it. This stuff is fun to play with. And it runs pretty good if you actually want to do work with it.

    Hiya Newt
I was a happy duck with 98. ME came along....I was tickled pink. XP showed up....and I've been less than thrilled at the prospect. I'm not pleased that Billy wants me to buy a seperate copy for every dang computer I own. :(

    Daizy the Luddite. :D

I do gotta say I'm interested to see someone who liked ME. A week of it was all I could personally tolerate and after a month of my wife having it and me supporting it, we became a ME-free household.

I have noticed a huge slow-down on posts to the ME section but can't make up my mind if M$ put out patches that stabalized it or if folks having problems have just gone away from it.

    2K-pro was great.

XP-Pro is even better except for being such a serious resource hog.

    :D Ludditte
That's so much nicer than what everyone else calls me! :D

That's the whole thing with Windows ME...you either love it or hate it. I've found the single best thing for running it is to scream through msconfig and unload all the **** that loves to put itself into start up. After that.......it hums along sweetly. It too loves it's resources. I don't think it caught on real well, that's for sure.

I've got a bee buzzing in my ear daring me to put XP on.... I'll let you know the minute I cave. :D

As for having a ME-free household. Funny thing...I get told that all the time too! :( I just don't think it's got anything to do with computers.
