    Hi Everybody:

Every so often my CD drive just decides to not work and then it
    heals itself.

I get this message (f:\ is not accessible). I am running Win98 with a new Acer CDRW. It works fine for about a week and then just decides not to take anything. It can be just playing a music CD or I my be installing drivers and it just quits and gives that message. Any suggestions.

    Thanks
    Mr. Wedgee

Make sure the cables plugged into the CD-ROM are tight. Could be the changes in heat within the computer case are loosening the cables periodically.

Is the CD-ROM showing up in the Device Manager when it stops working or is there a yellow ! mark there?

    Hi JohnB:

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I have tried everything including the directions. I even removed the CD and ran a check on the electronics.
I am awaiting a reply from the manufacturer support and I will post any changes.

    Thanks
    Mr. Wedgee

You may try checking the jumper setting of your CD drive. Some CD drive might come with either cable select or slave jumper setting. Just to make sure that it uses only Master jumper setting if and only if your CD drive was connecting to master IDE. Sometimes it helps.

I am sure rkelly71 means the CD Rom should be on the "Secondary" Master IDE cable connection as you should have your hard drive on the "Primary" Master.

The jumpers should of course be set to Master.
