I am running Win 2000 Pro sp4 and have copied my i386 folder to C:\ --- I have went to HKEY__LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\SETUP and changed the sourcePath and have entered C:\ and rebooted but when I try to run sfc /scannow it keeps asking me for the CD to be put in my E:\ drive. See attached hpoto of new settings, any help would be appreciated.

Well, I'm not sure but perhaps it's looking for the service pack files? Did you by any chance install a service pack using a cd?

What makes me wonder is that you say it prompts you for the cd in the e: drive. I noticed in your picture that the ServicePackSource value is set to e:. If you have the service pack on a CD, try copying it to the c drive and then change the ServicePackSource value accordingly.

I don't know if this is what's happening or not as I'm not sure if the system file checker will look for a service pack if the correct files aren't in the XP setup files but it's worth a try.

These settings work for XP with the i386 folder at C:\i386 (ignore the upper red line - that was for something else)

Thanks for the reply and it has fix my dilemma by also changing the ServicePathSourcePath to C:\ also.

    Thanks again,
