i tried deleting earthlink from my computer....but i needed up deleting individual files from the folder execpt these 3 which wont delete. now i get this pop on my computer everytime i try open anything:

"please wait while windows configures earthlink tar "
"the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. "
"error 1706. no valid source could be found for product earthlink TAR. the window installer cannot continue "

when i try deleting the 3 files on the earthlink folder i get this msg:
"cannot delete [file name] access is denied. make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use. "

i know it's probably cuz i deleted some component which i wasn't supppose to...but the pop up is driving me crazy!! if anyone can help that would be greatful!

fliprose - Welcome to the Board :)

You really should have uninstalled Earthlink through Add/Remove Programs - I guess it puts some software there?

So first option is to reinsatall Earthlink and uninstall it the correct way - check out their website on this.

Second option is to go Start > Run > type in msconfig > OK and go to the Startup tab and disable Earthlink if there is an entry there.

Concurrent with this go Start > Network Connections and delete the Earthlink connection if it is still there.

Final option - which still may not have the desired effect is to download MoveOnBoot and mark the files you note for deletion.

There will probably still be registry strings present which may continue to call up Earthlink on boot - download RegSeeker and search the Registry for Earthlink - check that the backup box is checked and delete the strings found.

Reinstall and uninstall is the preferred method.

    i tried the:
"Second option is to go Start > Run > type in msconfig > OK and go to the Startup tab and disable Earthlink if there is an entry there. "

it said i have "an access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. you may need to log on using an administrator account to make the specified changes."

but i'm on my computer administrator password protected...isn't that the same thing?

I suggest you log on as Administrator in Safe Mode and try again. There is may be some subtle difference between a User with Administrative Rights and Administrator, but I cannot tell you what that is.
