I did the search to see if any one is having the same trouble I am, and there is but I get different results. I tried downloading it from different site's, Then did the search and found out that maybe something got in my computer, and used SPYBOT, EWIDO and AD WARE. This didn't help. I also bought the SP2 CD from a site on the BBS forum, . Extracting files, then updates, Starts to install then access was denied. How do I find out what the problem is,

Are you logged on with Administrative rights when you try to install?

    dean,

Try turning off your antivirus program, sometimes a/v programs interfere with installations. Also if you have any antispyware programs turn those off temporarily (especially Webroot's SpySweeper). You may have to go into TaskManager to make sure they're really off. Post back and let us know if this was any help (or not). Good luck.

    Hi dean,

No messages on the screen after the restore point creation? For example, "Backing up the registry "?

    Regards - Charles

    Hi dean,

Doing some more thinking about this:

Try the install logging in using the default Administrator account. Either something wrong with your account or a setting under your account is causing the problem.

    Regards - Charles

Sorry for the delay; I used a default ad. and then the installation stopped after a few minutes then stated Set up could not backup registry key HKCR|.DVR-MS to file C:WINDOWS|$NtservicepackUninstall $|reg00013.5: Acess is denied
I also tried using me the administrator with no luck, I shut off the intivirus ran all kins of spyware then shut them off. I even deleted the spayware and tried with same results.

    1. Download and install subinacl from:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en

    2. Using Notepad, create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools folder.

    3. Copy/paste into the reset.cmd file the following content.

    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=systems=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

    4. Enter into CMD prompt.

    5. Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter.

    cd\
    cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
    reset.cmd

    6. After a few minutes by processing subinacl, please test the problem
    again.

My apologies, I was typing while thinking.

    To enter into command mode:

Start button, Run, type into the box that appears: CMD

You are now in command mode.

    Best wishes.

The sp2 installed but caused another problem. After installation was complete all my icons (on the desktop) vanished. I couldn't even shut it down corretly. By pushing and holding the on switch for a couple of seconds shut it down. Then when I restarted it it goes thru all the stages of it starting up but when it gets to the point where the user log on should come up a blue screen with the windows XP logo pops up and the PC won't do anything to my limited know how.
I'm up at the county library posting this. so please help. Thank you so much for the help. PC wantabe:) , Dean

    dean,

Are you saying you can't 'log in' (because you can't select a user name)?
If that is the case, when you get to where you would normally log in... on your keyboard press ctrl+alt+delete (may have to press it twice, I can't remember for sure) and this should bring up the 'classic' Windows log in box.

when starting it goes thru all the steps the bars in the line go across I think this is the bios but when it suppose to do to the login for users it goes to a light blue screen with a 1 inch line on the top and bottom with the windows XP logo in the middle of the screen. and the computer won't do anything, the ctrl-alt-delete does nothing, I think that windows isn't starting up. I also tried it in safe mode with no luck. I'm back in the library. luckly there's 10 pc's in here to use. I
'm very thankful for all the help.
