I am using XP Pro and have an Agfa Snapscan 1212U Scanner which up until a few days ago worked fine.

For some reason this changed and I am at a loss to figure out why.

I tried updating the driver's, which did not work.

I uninstalled it and on re-boot got the 'found new hardware' message, and went through the re-installation, culminating with the message "Your new hardware is ready to use ", but it still will not work.

I ran the Windows 'System File Checker' to see if anything showed up there, but it was clean.

The only thing I have noticed is that in the Control Panel the scanner shows as 'Snapscan ... #2' which I cannot recall, the #2 part that is, seeing previously.

I certainly am open to suggestions as to how I may resolve this, if anyone has any ideas.

    Many Thanks.

    Try this route ....

Uninstall the scanner through Device Manager (the #2 is the result of having uninstalled the previous 'copy', but something has been left behind in the registry - that is not a problem :)) and disconnect it.

Uninstall the software through Add/Remove programs - reboot.

Download RegSeeker and search for Agfa and Snapscan - ckeck that the backup box is checked and delete all registry strings found.

Reboot and reinstall the scanner exactly as specified by the manufacturer.

What "does" it do when you try to scan?

    Thank you for both replies.

I had done exactly as Pete suggested, but used another Registry Cleaner program, and did not have any success.

I downloaded Regseeker and ran this and my problem went away, so I guess there must have been something in the Registry that the other program did not find.

    Many thanks.
