When attempting to open a folder using windows explorer (a tool I use a lot) it hangs up and provides the error msg runtime error contact the applications team. I have run Avast, Windows Defender and Regcleaner, unistalled Google and Yahoo Toolbars, (Google suggestions) etc. however explorer.exe still corrupted. I am also unable to get into safe mode. F8 yields boot options but not entry to safe mode.

Suggestions for repair would be most appreciated. Tks

Tks Charles. I had found and read the article and downloaded and run shellexview. I scanned the results but took no action. I read more carefully the article after your rec and followed the instructions regarding shells. It cleared up the problem. I'm now going one by one thru the non-microsoft shells to see which one is the offender.

    Regards, Tim
