I am having a problem keeping the created date on the file when I copy to a CD. Both the modified date and created date convert to todays date. I have done it correctly once before but have failed to do it again, can anyone help?

    Thanks

Hi, Kyle. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

I'm sorry. I don't think we have enough information to go on.

Can you tell us what software you're using to copy data to CD, how you're using that software, what type of data you're copying to CD, etc.?

Once you provide more information, someone might move this thread to another forum (if necessary) where you are more likely to receive help that specifically addresses your issue.

If you are using Nero 7 - not sure about earlier versions - check out the Date tab - see screenshot.

Heh. I guess I'll chime in with a screenshot for Nero Express 5. :) It's probably the same or similar for other versions of Nero Express.

I am copying an x-ray for storage from windows xp. I open the folder & highlight the file to be dragged or copied and then windows xp uses the roxio software (came with the dell pc) to copy to the cd. The image is fine, the only problem is it changes the date created over with todays date.

    Thank you
    Kyle

I suggest you open the Roxio software and set up to make a standard data CD. Look in the options for date preferences and then drag the file into the software and burn Can't be more specific as I don't have access to a copy of Roxio.

    Hi, Kyle.

I'm sorry I am not familar with Roxio's software.

I am guessing you're using Roxio's Easy CD Creator Basic version 5.1, 5.2, or 5.3.

I have searched the web a few times over the last couple days for a manual for Easy CD Creator. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a manual online for Easy CD Creator (that I was hoping would have screenshots and/or specific instructions for preserving the original file dates).

However, I did find a Dell support page for Easy CD Creator version 5: How do I create a data CD in Roxio Easy CD Creator 5?. I am guessing the option for preserving the original file dates may be in step 5 or 6 of those instructions.

According to the Dell instructions I linked:
    • Step 5 puts you at the "Source" window where you decide what files are to be burned to a CD.
While at the "Source" window, look around for the setting for preserving original file dates. Try right-clicking at various places too.
      -
    • Step 6 puts you at the "Record CD Setup" window.
This seems to me to be the most likely window to find a setting to preserve the original file dates. Look for something like an "Options" or "Settings" button/tab. (Heck! Try all the buttons/tabs. :)) Also try right-clicking in various places.

Another possible source of help from Dell: Where Can I Find and Download the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.2 Interactive Tutorial? I did not download the tutorial though.

The only online Roxio manual I could find is a .PDF manual (10.3 MB, 314 pages) for Roxio Easy Media Creator 8. I downloaded the manual and searched it regarding your issue without success. :(

I am sorry I don't have the exact fix for your issue.

PeteC has moved this thread to the "Other Software" forum here on Windows BBS so perhaps someone familiar with your particular version of Roxio CD burning software will read this thread and provide a quick fix, especially if you can provide the exact name and version for your Roxio software.

Kyle, I hope this message helps! Please let us know.

EDIT: BTW, many computer programs have a "Help" > "About..." feature at the top of the program window where you can find the exact name and version of the program.

If you have such a "Help" button or menu item at the top of your Roxio window, click on it and see if there is a "Manual" item in the list. If so, I expect selecting "Manual" will open a searchable manual where you can cearch for certain keywords in the document. You might be able to find information about how to preserve original file dates when burning CDs in that manual.

Another possible way to find this information is by hitting the F1 key while the program is open. In many computer programs, the F1 key opens a searchable manual for the program.
