Hi, just spent a fortune on a new pc AMD X2-3600 dual core, 200GB sata, 512mb ram with a 400W PSU. The prob started the moment i brought it home to install the O/S myself. The pc will reboot itself before I can even select the drive i want to install the O/S! Went into bios to check and sometimes it just reboots right there. I brought the pc back to the technician and he said it's something to do with the ram. He replaced it so I brought it home and still the pc reboots itself. So i brought the pc back but he manage to install the O/S at his workshop with no problems at all/ no reboot! So I thought its the power extension, so I bought a Surge Protected power extension. Still having the same problem. The PC reboots before I can even start installing the O/S.
When I do not boot from cd, it gives me NTLdr missing, pls press alt-ctrl-del to restart pc. Why is it that the pc keeps rebooting in my home but not in the technician's workshop? Pls Help.

Need lots more information if you need help here. Give us the specs of the motherboard (name, version , BIOS version and date. Do you have a drivers CD for the motherboard? To install on a SATA drive you need the drivers on a floppy disk and tap F6 when the blue screen with the white line at the bottom starts.

Question - How many operating systems are you planning on installing?
Sounds to me like that technician (assuming he was the builder) might need to make a house call. I'd be inclined to get my money back and shop elsewhere if there was any hesitation on his part.

    ;)

Does your neighborhood recieve "good" power? By that I mean the voltage doesn't fluctuatate and carry noise? A surge protector will not remove this. It will supress extremes only.
A friend of mine had all kinds of weird reboots, hardware failures and such. 3 Dell waranty replaced PC's later, it was narrowed down to "dirty" power from the power company. The power company installed some eqiupment out at the pole to clean up the power comming in. They have been running OK for 4 years now. You could use a good UPS that filters and damps the power to clean it up. HTH

Yea, 'dirty' power is the 1st thing that comes to my mind too.
