I take it that you do not have an XP or Recovery CD, but is there a Recovery Partition on the hard drive?

    Hi Pete.....
I do not have an XP CD..This computer came as a bundle from Office Max...

The only CDs that came with the computer is Microsoft Works and Money Standard 2003 as well as a Western Digital Floppy disk entitled .....Hard Drive..Data Lifeguard tools.

Right click My Computer > Manage > Disk Management - is there a partition shown which does not show up in Explorer? We are looking for a hidden Recovery partition which should contain a mirror of the drive as delivered.

That's where the mirror of the drive is installed.

Is there an HP Recovery entry in Start > Programs?

I suppose you don't have the manual for the computer? Have you looked on the HP website for instructions. I remember a recent thread in which the poster was able to recover direct from the drive once the hidden files/folders were shown. I'll need to search for that on the Board.

When you boot the machine Do you get an HP screen if you do in the bottom right corner it tells you to press F10 to reset if it does press that key or key the that listed there then choose System Recovery. My apologies if you tried this already. That's how I repaired my friend's computer. You should'nt lose any data or settings.

    Pete...
    There is no HP Recovery listed in the Start/Programs..There is;
    System Diagnostics.
Software Update..Which does not work ( won't install)
    HP Director
    HP Print Screen
    Photo Imaging and Gallery
    ...........................
Maybe my problem has a bit to do with my IE..

Whenever I go to a webpage recently I have to refresh at least once for every page I go to.....this has not ever happened before...This has prevented me from downloading anything as when I click on the Start Download button I am immediately sent to a No Page To Display page......

When I click refresh I am routed to the previous page ....
The few times I have been able to start the download it is interrupted midstream with a message that the site could not be connected to

I use Microsoft Outlook...I get continuous errors in the send receive informing me that the server cant receive and some times the server cant be logoned to...
I did call HP and they told me since my computer is out of warranty they could not help me...

Microsoft said they would solve the problem for a $35 fee...but I should go to HP for assistance since it was one of theirs

How do I reinstall a new IE since this one is so corrupted

You're welcome :) When it is all up and running as you want it you might want to consider ghosting the drive to DVD - Acronis, Ghost, etc.
