O.K., that of course is an ISP error, and if you have checked settings with them, including ports, etc., not certain what's happening. Right now, we will assume you are in error.

To the Forum: Bob emailed screen shots of his *.slt folder, and his Mail Account Folder, which you can look at below. This was with the agreement that I would not help via email, but would post suggestions only via the Forum.

Bob, after looking at the screen shots, these are my suggestions, if you have not already done so:

Not that this will cure your problem, but I see some maintenance that needs to be done. Before doing any editing, BACK UP YOUR ENTIRE PROFILES FOLDER, then close Netscape, and delete the following in your *.slt file:

    Cache Folder
    Cache.Trash

You have a very large history.DAT file. Do you want to save this much history? If not, I would delete this file as it is 1,395 KB, or 1+ MB.

When Netscape is restarted, it will rebuild the Cache Folder, and history.dat file. You don't need the Cache.Trash folder.

Your Sent folder is very, very, large. I would archive most of it, and cut the file size down to less than 1 MB. That may have nothing to do with your problem, but then again it may... Hard to say, since the workarounds aren't helping with your problem. Before archiving tho, try this:

After backing up: close NS, and rename the Sent folder to XSent.
    Next: Delete the sent.msf file
Start Netscape, and a new Sent folder will be created. Now try to send mail.

    Could you send?

    Thanks Ramona

Hi Ramona. I did as you suggested. I still can't send mail from Netscape. Any other suggestions? Thanks and best regards, Bob.

I gave this link at another user forum, and it indicates problems with such outgoing mail due to a block, apparently placed by the server.Whether or not this applies only to Netscape, and not Outlook is another point, but worth looking into.

    I Can Send Mail!!!!!!!!

Hi to all who have helped me. I now can send mail with Netscape. Even after talking to three offshore support persons at SBC I found out that the SMTP port was set wrong. They all did not tell me that the correct SMTP port was 25 not 110 as it is for the POP3 server. I specifically asked about the settings and was assured they were set right. Thanks to all of you guys and gals. I do appreciate all the help. I have learned a lot from you all. Best regards, Bob.

    Bob,

Hurray! Glad to hear that you are now able to send mail.

Did you change the SMTP setting to Port 110, per SBC Tech support?

EDIT: Bob, I see your thread on the other Forum. I took you at your word that your settings were correct, and should have followed thru anyway. Sorry!

They either misunderstood your question, or are incompetent. typically, port 25 is used for sending, if it is not 587. And port 110 is for receiving POP mail, and 143 for IMAP.

Thanks. I think you are right. They are incompetent and offshore! Regards, Bob.
