I just formatted my IBM A20 laptop computer and I am running WinME and I have run into a problem.

    1. The system seems to just hang during shutdown

    2. When I go to System/Device Manager/Hard Disk Controller there is an
explanation point on the following item:

Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

    with the following error message:

The device is causing a resource conflict (code 15)
To resolve the conflict, click Hardware Troubleshooter and follow the
    instructions.

However when we click on the Hardware Troubleshooter, nothing happens, it does not respond at all. Could this be causing the computer to hang when shutting down? I already updated the bios and still no luck.

I appreciate any help I can get!!

    Thanks in advance, Andy

Matt - Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner, we were not home yesterday, so we tried it today.

Unfortunatley your suggestion didn't seem to work. Here is the message we received:

The current operating system supports the Intel Chipset devices on your system. No
    INF update is needed.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Although the computer does shutdown properly, it seems to hang up and we still have the yellow explanation point in the device manager. Do you think this a error could cause any real issues or that we really need to just not worry about it?

    Thank you.

    Andy

This should be showing as a "problem" in Device Manager. You will need to find which other device it is conflicting with. If you may think it is a hardware item you have added recently, try removing it.

Go to the IBM (Support) webpage for your system and get updated drivers.

Try running the Add Hardware wizard in Control Panel

    Matt
Edit: sorry to be so abrupt. IBMs generally have a "this is the way I like it" style. If you find the way to get the hardware running without any conflicts, it will run like a dream.

The problem will be that the base drivers are not loaded or hardware you have added is trying to share resources with those that are reserved for basic (system) hardware.
