    Hello,

on only one of my five accounts on my XP system (w service pack 2), I have the following problem:

when I try to create a new folder, shortcut, or whatever on the Desktop, I receive the following error box:

Title bar: Unable to create folder
    Content of error box:
unable to create the folder 'New Folder'
    the specified path is invalid.

In Windows Explorer, the icons for the Desktop folder on the left pane do not match what actually appears on the desktop.

Anybody know how I can correct the invalid path to the desktop? (if that is what the problem is)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Majac777

Many thanks for your suggestion. Just want to ask: the corrupt account in question is the default Administrator account originally established when I first installed Win XP. Is it OK to proceed per the directions in the link you provided? It sounds simple enough. I just don't want to mess up the master Administrator account (or is an admistrator account just an administrator account?).

    Thank you again,
    Regards,

You should not run into any problems so long as you ensure that the new account you create has administrative rights.

    Hi Pete,
I haven't had a chance to perform your suggestions--have to go to work in a few minutes...but I thought I'd provide add'l info:

I note that the desktop icons in the Administrator account are soley the Desktop icons from "..../Documents and Setting/All Users/Desktop ".
I also noted when logged in to Administrator account, and using Windows Explorer to view "..../Documents and Setting/Administrator/Desktop" -- I saw the other folders and icons that SHOULD appear on the Desktop, but do not appear. Also, I can add folders and perform all normal file and folder functions--as long as I do it via Windows Explorer.

    Thanks again!
