I get the following message, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel" I can't figure out how to do that. I would appreciate your help.

    bobeau--
Taken at face value that message is saying to open any Windows window, click on Tools|Options|File Types tab and create an association with a program that can open that type of file.
But it is a little simpler to right click on any file of that file type, Open With, choose a program from the list and click OK. (If you are not offered a choice of programs when you first click on Open With, click on Choose Program.) If you like the results, repeat but this time before clicking OK, check the box at the bottom "Always use the selected program... ", then OK.
However, you have to know what program is likely to open the file. What is the file type extension of the attachment (the last three letters after the . at the end of the file's name)? We can then make suggestions as to what program to use.
P.S. Does anything different happen if you right click on the attachment|Save As|choose where to save|scan with your antivirus program|and, if no virus detected, then click to open?

email attachments with the extension ".email "

    Jim/anyone
My problem is with incoming email. As discussed, I can't open these files without an associated program...and I don't know how to assign a program or which program to assign

    opening email attachments w/extension ".email

In a previous post I wasn't clear enough. When I get an email message with an attachment that carries the file extension ".email" I get a message that advises "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel" A two part question; How do I create an association and which program should I use? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the person creating new mails and sending or ar they forwarding emails?

If forwarding, what happens when they send a newly created mail and or reply to something you send?

They are always forwarded emails w/ attachments.
When they respond to something I emailed them it is never in the form of an attached file, but simple text.

bobeau--I have no idea what program creates files with the extension ".email ", but you should be able to open them with OE if you first rename them as ".eml ". So right click on the attachment, Save it, and then rename it. Now click on it.
I am assuming that there is no ".exe" following the word "email ". If there is, that could be the sign of a program trying to install malware on your PC.
The way you associate a file with a program that can open it is explained in my post #2 above. Please reread the second paragraph. YOu could also try associating the file type .email with OE. I never did that. (Never had any .email files to play with.)

Your last bit of advise was the answer: associating the extension ".email" with OE. It worked!
    Thanks for your help.
